Maybelline Master Prime Hydrating Primer

Where I got it: I got this from the Chemist Warehouse at Botany for $17.49 (usually $18.99). You should be able to find Maybelline products everywhere, like Farmers, pharmacies, supermarkets, etc.

The Chemist Warehouse is originally from Australia and they recently opened a store at The Hub Botany (their first store in NZ is in St Lukes which opened last year). They offer cheap prescriptions and often free prescriptions. I’m not too sure how it works because I seldom get prescriptive medicine. However, they also stock a lot of supplements, skincare, makeup, hair care, baby products, fragrances, etc. It is not a really big store, but for a chemist/pharmacy, they do have a lot in stock. It would take you at least an hour having a good browse at all they have to offer. I checked out their baby supplies, health supplements section, skincare and makeup sections. Some of the brands I have not heard of, some of them I often see in pharmacies and supermarkets. I can’t say that they offer the cheapest prices for all of their items because I have seen elsewhere that offer the same products but for lower price when they are on sale, but if you catch the Chemist Warehouse having a sale, then, by all means, check it out because they can be quite competitive.

What I got: I got the Maybelline Master Prime Hydrating Primer. Master Prime® colour correcting primer preps for makeup application by visually blurring away specific skin concerns. They are formulated with a water-soluble base and active ingredients that refine the look and feel of skin for makeup that lasts all day. Also comes in a blurring version, a green version to combat redness and a pink version to illuminated the skin.

How I find it: You can basically find Maybelline products everywhere now like Farmers, Kmart, Supermarkets, Pharmacies, etc. This is one of 4 other primers in the Maybelline Master Prime Collection. They have a pore blurring primer which appealed to me too, but I already own a few pore perfecting, pore blurring primers, I need something hydrating for the winter months that are coming. The blue tube packaging is a little misleading because I was expecting a blue-tinted product, but that isn’t Maybelline’s fault at all, it’s just me. The product is white in colour and has an almost gel-creme texture that is not too slippery or silicone-like. It does give my skin hydration but not oily or sticky. It’s just the right amount of moisture for my dry areas.

Overall: I quite like this primer. It is not irritating to my skin, it’s not oily or greasy and not too moisturising to the point that my skin doesn’t absorb the product. I’ve had a product that just sits on top of the skin and feels tacky to the touch even after foundation. It doesn’t add any tint to the skin which I really like because that makes it a little bit more versatile because I can also use it over foundation to where I need extra hydration. It also doesn’t have SPF which I don’t really mind because I always use a sunscreen as the last step of my skincare anyway. I honestly think this primer works and I will continue using it.
