Glow lab’s biggest skincare launch…yet!

Where I got it

I was suprised to see this big white box outside my front door one day and I was sent this lovely surprise box of goodies from Glow Lab to celebrate one of their biggest launch of skincare yet. A total of 7 new products consisting of a cleanser, 2 serums, a moisturiser, 2 body butters and an eye cream. I already see a lot of Glow lab products in Chemist Warehouse, Farmers, and a lot of supermarkets. Their price range is very afforable and the new products in this launch is between $16 – $30. These new products are readily available at where you typically find Glow Lab products.

Glow Lab’s mission was to first create a skincare range that’s natural, effective and cruelty and nasties free, all without breaking the bank. Their products are naturally-derived with ingredients that are scientifically-shown to work, they absorb fast without that stick after-feel, they are cruelty-free and are proudly made in New Zealand – glowlab.co.nz.

How I find it

NOTE: Now I have only tried these products for a couple of times mixed with other skincare products, therefore the review is considered a first impression and at most, a good 2-weeks worth of use.

Let’s start with the Face Wash for Acne. This is a foaming face wash with salicylic acid and lactic acid to gently exfoliate the skin, working to remove dead skin cells and clean the pores. It also contains green tea extract and centella asiatica extracts to provide antioxidants and soothe the skin. The foam is gentle and not drying at all. If you have acne or oily, it is actually great to use a cleanser that lathers up so that it does not irritate the skin (compared to a scrub), you could also use a gel cleanser because that is also very gentle. This isn’t a soapy cleanser that leaves your skin squeaky clean so it doesn’t dry out the skin. Of course this is a second cleanser so if you wear makeup and sunscreen during the day, you need to use a makeup remover before this. The cleanser rinses off clean and easy.

Next we have the Pro-Collagen Plumping Facial Serum. This serum is packed full of peptides (SpecPed® 3AK and Matrixyl® Synthe’ 6™) for lifting, plumping up the skin and boost production of collagen and hyaluronic acid. It is a lightly hydrating serum and very easy to layer with. It doesn’t give you that instant lifting effect, but it does make my skin feels very nice, even for my combination oily skin. It’s not sticky or tacky and is absorbed quickly into the skin.

We have another serum which is a brightening serum – Vitamin C Brightening Facial Serum. This is a milky-lotion texutre serum contains niacinamide, Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) from Kakadu Plum extract, Vitamin E and exfoliating acids from pineapple and papaya extracts. It is also a very lightweight lotion type of serum that you could easily layer underneath a thicker serum. You could easily use this with the pro-collagen plumping serum. Vitamin C is great for the morning to help fight free radicals alongside your sunscreen. I always make sure I use at least SPF30 if not SPF50.

We also have one eye cream in this launch – Pro-Collagen Lifting Eye Cream. I’m actually not big on eye cream, with particular to moisturising eye creams because even though my skin can get dry in areas, my eye area is prone to getting millias, and there is a particular area under my eye where I have a couple of pores that clogs up and becomes a bump that I need to squeeze. I prefer something lightweight – like a serum or an eye gel. However, this eye cream is quite light for an eye cream. It still isn’t something that I would always reach for around my eye area, maybe only at night. It feels moisturising around the eye area, but I could not vouch for the lifting aspects.

Pro-Collagen Lifting Eye Cream

This is one of the products I was really excited about – Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel Moisturiser. I have combination-oily skin so I am attracted to something that is hydrating and gel-like. This is also oil-free and contains aloe vera. I was also excited that it did not contain sodium acrylates copolymer which is notorious for leaving that slimey film on the skin that doesn’t really go away or sink into the skin. However, it wasn’t moisturising enough for my skin on its own and I start feeling a bit dry around my dry area – sides of my cheeks mostly. I would need an occulsive product over this to seal the hydration in. If you have oily skin or well-balanced skin, you might be OK without adding anything else.

Hyaluronic Acid Water Gel Moisturiser

Both the Illuminating Body Butter Coconut and Firming Body Butter Caffeine are really thick in texture – truly a moisturising body butter. I regularly use body moisturiser – mostly body lotion as they are lightweight and absorbed quickly. However, I do love a good body cream or body butter if I had the time for it to sink in and if my skin needed some TLC.
