Rimmel Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation

Where I got it : I got this from Kmart for $11.50 while they were doing $6 off all Rimmel face, lips and eye products. Woohoo! Farmers also stock Rimmel where you can try out the testers. Kmart doesn’t have testers.

What I got : This is the Stay Matte Liquid Mousse Foundation by Rimmel in 200 Soft Beige. I have previously tried the testers in Farmers and I would say the colours run quite pink. None of the shades had a good neutral yellow undertone. However, I bought the shade that is the closest to my skin tone because I really want to try it. This is a mousse foundation in a tube (not quite liquid I would say). It boasts lightweight, shine control foundation that stays matte for a number of hours. Let’s see how this goes!

How I find it: After my usual skincare, I apply my usual primer then I use a small amount of this mousse foundation all over my face. I apply using my fingers as the mousse texture is rather thick and can be a bit drying on the skin. Once applied, it is hard to move it and it leaves my skin very matte I don’t even need a powder to set it. Just have to be careful to check that there are no streaks or finger strokes. Also make sure you don’t apply too much, put it on the back of your hand, then use a little by little otherwise the mattifying effect of this mousse foundation can look a little cakey on the face. I would apply an under eye concealor before the foundation if you do need to. Be careful about using cream blushes or bronzers over this foundation as it may not work so well with the formula (cakey). There is no need to powder over this foundation to set it as it pretty much sets itself down. Instead I would use a makeup setting spray to set it and give my skin a bit of a natural finish back.

Overall: The shade is not perfect for my skin, but when it is applied all over and blended in, it is not that pink on my yellow undertones. It will work great for mattifying oily skin, it is quite long wearing if you are not going swimming or doing sports. However, it is a little bit too cakey and matte-looking for me. I would prefer something a little bit more natural looking with a bit of glow to it. I’ve been through the mistake of applying too much directly on my face and I looked really cakey and my pores and lines were accentuated! I use a powdered blush and bronzer over this and then I use my Mario Badescu Rosewater facial spray or MAC Fix Plus spray to set everything. During the day, I only needed to blot once then apply a facial spray and fix up any foundation that has sunken into my lines. Not a bad foundation for oily skin for this price range. Of course if you can afford it, I would definitely go for Estee Lauder’s Double Wear Liquid Foundation instead. :>
