Elle & Riley Cashmere review

Where I got it

I have been into cashmere pieces lately and I came across a local company (New Zealand), Elle & Riley Cashmere. They have physical shops in Remuera, New Market, Ponsonby, Commercial Bay, Matakana and Queenstown. They specialise in cashmere pieces that are designed in New Zealand and made in China. I got these pieces from their sale – Cashmere Cape in Deep Camel ($691 to $346). Cashmere Ribbed Beanie in Butter ($188 to $98).

What I got

I have two items from Elle & Riley – the Cashemere Cape and Cashmere Ribbed beanie.

How I find it

The cashmere cape is a very good size and thickness. It is not too heavy, and of a generous size to cover the back all the way down to my thighs. The cashmere is buttery soft and not scratchy on the skin. It has an inconspicuous round gold logo of Elle & Riley. I would say for the price of $346, it is a good deal for how much fabric you get. It is a versatile piece that you can throw on over an outfit, you can also take it on a flight as a blanket, similar to a travel wrap.

Such an elegant piece to throw on an outfit in winter to layer and keep warm. You could add a belt behind your back and buckle it at the front to cinch in the waist, you can also throw on side over your sholders for a scarf-look, it’s effortless style.

I have been looking for a knit beanie last winter that has a ribbed look. This one looks perfect and I love the stone colour! The small logo is also great for beanies so I can wear on cold days that I need to take the kids to soccer. My head is rather big, but this beanie has a good stretch and feels really soft and comfortable on my head and around my forehead. It definitley keeps my head warm and looking chic.

Overall

This is an absolutely gorgeous piece. The 100% cashmere feels buttery soft and fluffy, not at all scratchy or itchy on the skin. It has a light stretch, and drapes over the shoulders beautifully. I think the size is perfect because it covers my back and bottom area but the arm area is not too long that I can easily bring my arms out. The deep camel colour is not the lightest available, but it is a lovely neutral colour to easily match most outfits. I have a cape of similar style and colour by Burberry, but it s wool so it is thicker and reversible. I also have a blogpost on the Strathberry 100% Cashmere Travel Wrap you can compare. The style is totally different, it is a 2m long wrap, but the material and texture are the same buttery smooth cashmere.

So far, I am unable to comment on how the cape wears and whether it has started to pill, but if it does pill, I have a cashmere comb to easily remove it.  I have also bought the cashmere wash liquid from Elle & Riley to take care of my cashmere piece so if I do need to wash it, I might do a video on my IG.

As for the beanie, I have only tried it on, but not worn it out because we are in the midst of summer right now. It has nice stretch so it’s not too tight around my large head.
