DaikokuNZ Haul

Where I got it

I have heard of this website a few months ago when I was searching for some NZ websites selling Japanese skincare products. I stumbled across this website, clearly Asian-owned as they had much Chinese text. They do have a physical store in Albany and in the CBD, but they do have an app as well. After a few months, I finally made the decision to purchase a few products. I ordered this on Saturday 20/2, and it arrived on 23/2 which was pretty quick. My entire order was $92.50 and shipping was free.

Besides skincare, they also stock Japanese makeup, household items, mother and baby items, snacks, health care supplements and some adult items. Their prices are reasonable and they do offer these VIP prices for people who pre-pay credit into their account. Discounts on items do vary and I don’t think the credits expire. Anyway, this is my first order with them, and so far I am very satisfied and hopefully, I will do another order from them in the future!

What I got

I picked up a number of items, mainly sheet masks. I picked up a packet of Kose Clear Turn Super Premium Fresh Mask (3s), a pack of Kose Bihada-Syokunin Moisturising Mask (7s), a pack of BCL Momo Puri Jelly Mask (4s), a pack of Shiseido Senka Perfect Silky Mask (28s), a Nivea Peach scented lip balm, a Kobayashi Toilet Air Freshener (White peach scent) and a pack of Meito White Peach Candy (75g).

First of all, I would like to comment on how many sheet masks I bought because some people might be a little uncomfortable with the environmental effects of sheet masks. I personally love masks that come in a tub or a tube which might be a little better for the environment, but sheet masks are undeniably convenient. I decided to purchase sheet masks that come in a single pouch without additional backing sheets and individual packaging. I will find out if the mask sheets are biodegradable for each one.

How I find it

Kose Clear Turn Super Premium Fresh Mask ($9.90 for 3s). There are 3 options for this range: Clear, Ultra-Rich and Firm & Radiant. This one here is Clear which contains Coix seed extract, Gyokuro green tea extract BC (moisturizer) and 1-Disodium ascorbyl sulfate (a Vitamin C derivative). It also contains Sakuran® BG, a moisturizer extracted from Aphanothece sacrum, an algae that only grows under specific conditions in the clearest spring water. It is extremely rare, found only in a few areas of Japan. It has no added fragrance, colour, mineral oil-free, alcohol-free, paraben-free and non-silicone. The mask sheets are made with cotton-based material Bemliese®.

This one is approx $19 on YesStyle.com. 10 minutes treatment.

Kose Bihada-Syokunin Moisturising Mask ($9.90 for 7s). There are a total of 6 options in this range: smoothing, brightening, moisturising, firming, extra moisturising and clearing). This one here is Moisturising. Infused with Japanese Sake, which is rich in fermented rice extract, along with hot spring water and amino acid GL to deliver rich moisture to the skin, while leaving pores tighter and smaller. The mask sheets are made of fibre material, like traditional paper-making, it doesn’t say that it is biodegradable, but it is assumed so. The mask has no added fragrance, no added colour and is mineral oil-free.

There is quite a bit of serum in the bag, but I would suggest storing these flat so the masks are evenly saturated with the serum instead of it all accumulating at the bottom. I kind of massage the pack a little before I pull out a sheet. The shape of the mask was a little small, and it wasn’t very stretchy. It recommends to leave it on for 10 minutes, but I only left it on for about minutes because it dried up a bit on my forehead area. It was hydrating, but I couldn’t say that it had a long-lasting hydrating result. I did rinse it off afterwards, but it didn’t feel sticky on the skin at all. I’m sure it will get absorbed or evaporate if I don’t rinse it out. This is approx $16 on YesStyle.com.

BCL Momo Puri Jelly Mask ($22.90 for 4s). There are about 4 different variations with this Momo Puri mask range (Jelly mask, cool jelly mask, milky serum mask and milk jelly mask). They appear to have a slightly different ingredient list, but they all have this Peach Ceramide Water and Lactobacilius Blend. Ceramide water to hydrate and moisturise the skin while the Lactobacillus blend provides a gentle exfoliation to get rid of dead skin cells and reveal brighter skin.

Shiseido Senka Perfect Silky Mask ($22.90 for 28s). Drenched in concentrated beauty essence rich in naturally derived silk collagen and hyaluronic acid, these economical sheet masks improve dryness, fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes and mouth with prolonged use. Fragrance-free.

The mask sheets are folded in half within this bag and there are plenty of essences inside. Immediately, I can feel the mask sheet is really flimsy and thin. It is a tissue material and can easily tear. It was also a little hard to navigate the opened bag and the pulled out mask, so it was dripping and I was holding the big bag of mask which the essence can flow out if I lay it down. So I had to lean it against something while I put the mask on and then seal the packet close. The slits around the face, nose and eye flaps for the mask are still semi-attached so you need to pull it apart slightly, but that’s not really a big deal. However, the size of the mask sheet is quite narrow and it doesn’t fit so well around the nose and eye area.

I felt like the mask has a bit of an alcohol scent/feel to it, but I couldn’t pinpoint it. It did not burn my skin or irritate it, in fact, the essence did not dry up within 10 minutes and my skin felt really hydrated afterwards. It’s not bad, but I really did not like the fit of the mask.

Nivea Peach scented lip balm ($9.90 for 3.5g). Enjoy the special scent, to the fresh lips. Contains a “scent drop *” with a vanilla scent. The base peach scent and the vanilla scent spread later and the two scents overlap.

Kobayashi Toilet Air Freshener ($12.90). Just a simple air freshener for the bathroom that is white peach-scented. It is quite a large piece of item for a bathroom freshener.

Overall

Goodness, why did it take me so long to get this post out?? I tried all of the sheet masks, but have not yet opened the lip balm and toilet freshener to try so I kept forgetting to update this post. I have not reviewed the lip balm and toilet freshener in this post because I don’t think it’s really worth mentioning anyway.

Overall, I loved the Momo Puri Jelly masks and the Clear Turn masks the most, but the other sheets masks were all really ordinary. They did not really hydrate my skin a lot after using them and the Shiseido one had a really bad fit and the sheet material was quite cheap-feeling. The Bihada-Syokunin mask was a bit of a disappointment. The mask fit was small and the essence wasn’t very hydrationg or moisturising. Nonetheless, it did not break me out or cause irritations.

I will definitely purchase the different versions of the Momo Puri masks because they are just so cute and the different versions sounded really appealing! Have you tried any of these sheet masks before and what did you think?
