Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit

Lately, I have been quite conscious about healthy eating and losing that extra weight. After having Asher (my firstborn), I got back to my pre-baby weight (not until a year later though). However, after my second one, I kind of let loose and piled on weight quickly during the pregnancy and it stayed with for even long after my baby was born. He is now nearly 18 months old.

I am not on an unhealthy diet, but I can’t seem to fit in any exercise during the day. My day is pretty busy and I probably won’t go into details here, but every day, I wake up at 6, work for 4 hours and then the rest is housework, grocery shopping, prepping dinner, cooking dinner, cleaning up, getting the kids ready to bed and by around 9pm when all the kids are asleep, we get to wind down and rest. You might say that I could get some exercise done after 9pm, but let’s be real, I am already exhausted and I just want to sit on the couch and relax.

Anyway, let’s get to what I am reviewing in this post. The Blessed Herbs Colon Cleansing Kit (with organic ginger root). This is designed to help reset and optimise your digestive system’s ability to break down food, absorb nutrients and eliminate wastes. You can choose from 3 options – Best, Better or Good. Depending on which option you choose, the cleanse lasts anywhere from 8-30 days.

Personally, I chose the Better option which lasts 8 days. I did not choose the Best option because that involves a 5-day liquid-only fast and I won’t be able to do that due to my personal lifestyle and family situation.

So the kit comes in a sturdy cardboard box with a glass mason jar, a box of Toxin Absorber packets (10g each) and a bottle of 30 Digestive Stimulator capsules. There is also a User Guide explaining everything you need to know about the cleanse and a Dosage Calendar clearly planning out what you need to do each day (this is a lifesaver).

To start off, you need to go on a 3-day pre-cleanse. For the Better option, you start with having a “modified diet” 3 times a day with a Digestive Stimulator just before dinner and a Toxin Absorber mixture an hour before bed. I should be having 3 soft bowel movements a day.

Precleanse Diary – as a reference I started the cleanse with 59kg

DS=Digestive Stimulator (pills), TA= Toxin Absorber (apple juice and powder mixture), BM (bowel movement)

Day 1. I ate my normal meals with heaps of water and I took 3x Digestive Stimulator (DS) pills around and the Toxin Absorber (TA) mixture at 9pm.

Day 2. I had a smoothie in the morning with a slice of bread. I had a soft bowl movement (BM) just before 11am and just before 3pm. 4x DS at 6pm because I did not have 3 BM for the day so I added another pill from Day 1. I then end up having a BM at 7:45pm. Then a TA at 8:45pm an hour before bed.

Day 3. Started my day with a soft BM at 6:15am. For breakfast, I had a berry smoothie and plain unsweetened yoghurt for morning tea. A bigger portion of lunch at my parent’s place at around 1pm. I have my 2nd BM at 2:40pm and I did no end up having another BM for the rest of the day. DS at 5pm and TA at 8:45pm.

At the end of my pre-cleanse, and I felt good. The days where I had 3 bowel movements (BM), I felt lighter and full of energy! I did weight myself during the 3 days and it was a little bit of up and down (lowest is 57kg). The DS before dinner was easy to remember but the TA was quite a large amount of liquid to drink at one go. I suggest you drink the water after the TA at a much slower rate.

Main Cleanse

DS=Digestive Stimulator (pills), TA= Toxin Absorber (apple juice and powder mixture), BM (bowel movement)

Day 1. Started the day with a BM at 6:30am. I had a TA at 8am, 11am, 2pm and 5pm. BM at 10:50am, 1:30pm and 8:20pm. I was at work for 4 hours in the morning so I had my 11am TA at work which was quite easy, I just put a bottle of apple juice in the work fridge and bring in my mason jar and a sachet of the TA. At the end of the night, I had the DS at 10pm (you are supposed to take the TA at least 2hrs after your last DS).

Day 2. Started the day with a BM at 7am. First TZ at 7:30am, then 11:30am and I missed my 2:30pm because life happened and I was way too busy. I had it at 3:45pm and then another TA at 5:15pm and at 8:30pm. The instructions state that if you miss a TA, drink it right away and continue with the original schedule. In terms of BM, I had really bad abdominal pain from around 7pm which was intermittent, then it got worse around 10pm which felt like really bad period cramps (I wasn’t due for another week or so), which got me worried. I finally had my 3rd bowel movement at 10pm and I instantly felt so much better. I had my DS at 10pm.

Side note – today I actually took a day off work to take my preschooler for a mother and son bonding morning. It proved to be a bit of a hassle to be out and about while doing this cleanse. You need to bring your mason jar and the measured amount of apple juice (if organic apple juice is not readily available everywhere) and plenty of water. Therefore I would highly suggest you plan your week out properly and do the cleanse while you are mostly at home or at work.

Day 3. I had my first TA at 7:15am and my first BM at 7:30am. The entire morning, I felt my lower back pain again which feels very much like my period. At 2:30pm, I had another BM and I was able to keep up with 5x TA for the entire day. DS at 10:30pm.

Side note – the bowel movements during the day should not come with cramps. Unlike those weight-loss tea, the bowel movements should be just an urge to use the toilet. Nor does it give you explosive #2 that you must go otherwise you soil everywhere. All the bowel movements I had were comfortable, no pain process. Therefore a stomach pain I had on day 2 raised alarm bells.

Day 4. Ok, so no period and my cramps are gone. Soft BM at 6:30am, 10am and 5:40pm. TA at 8:15am, 11:30am, 3pm and I missed the last one at 5:15pm because life happened. Kids were at home and their routine was out the window. They were cranky and we were exhausted. DS at 10:30pm.

Day 5. Morning BM at 8:15am. My first TA at 8:10am and I pretty much missed the other 4 TA for the entire day. I was out from 9:30am to 4:30pm. Got home at around 6 and we had to go out for dinner in half an hour. Got home at around 7:30pm and it was battle time to get the kids to sleep. By 9pm, all the kids were asleep and by that time I was exhausted to even make myself a drink. I took the DS at the end of the night.

End of Cleanse

At the end of the cleanse, I lost about 2kg and I was quite glad that it is all over because I just can’t keep up with all the TAs I needed to make in a day. However, I felt great body-wise. I was full of energy, my tummy doesn’t feel bloated, and I felt lighter. I wasn’t sure how long the weight loss would keep up because the kit recommends an improved diet after the cleanse and to take the rest of the DS after the cleanse to help with the 3x daily BM.

Post-cleanse

So it has been about 5 weeks since the cleanse and I am pretty much back to my normal diet. I still like to have a healthy smoothie for breakfast and a light lunch. I also take 3 DS every day to help maintain 3x BM a day. I have at least 1 every day, but 2 at the most. I manage to keep the post-cleanse weight and don’t put on extra.

Summary

I don’t know if I would go through the cleanse using the Best or Better option, but most likely the Good option which is a span of a whole month (1x TA a day I think). I am still interested in other body cleanses, but probably something I only need to take pills which I can take with me on the go.

If you have any questions about the system, I recommend you head to the Blessed Herbs website, but if you have any questions on how I felt, how I managed and any details on how I got through the cleanse, by all means comment below and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
