Assembly Label Lara Cashmere Knit

Where I got it

I got this from Assembly Label online since their launch of cashmere pieces. At the price of NZD$240 for a long sleeves, pure cashmere jumper, it is an amazing price! A little too good to be true? We will find out.

So Assembly Label is an Australian brand, I would say focuses on modern clothing and lifestyle products made from high-quality materials that feels luxurious. Classic silhouettes and neutral colour palettes. I love the style of their pieces and they have minimal to no-branding on their piece and are mostly classic fits instead of trendy styles. They do have a shop in Westfield New Market, and now a shop in Ponsonby. But I decided to purchase online because I just don’t have time to go out for shopping. The cashmere piece was shipped in a soft plastic courier bag and the jumper is neatly folded and placed into another plastic bag. I would expect a slightly more protected packaging for such a fragile piece of clothing. If I were to purchase again, I may shop in-store.

How I find it

The beautiful red colour of this cashmere knit is gorgeous, just what I wanted for a pop of colour in my wardrobe. The cherry red compliments my skin tone, making my skin look brighter and healthier if that makes sense. This red sweater pairs well with some black pants, blue denims or some white pants. A simple sweater with this classic fit pairs well with either baggy pants, or tailored pants or even silk skirts.

I love the simple classic crew neck, standard length, finishing just above the hip. It is not too thin but also not too thick. It has a relaxed fit with dropped shoulders so it looks quite laid back. I would not layer anything underneath because the crew neck collar sits just on the collar bone so it’s not low enough to show a hint of what’s underneath, it will just look slightly bulky. I would, instead wear something on top – like a shawl, drape on a cardigan or a warm coat.

As for the softness and quality of this piece, I wouldn’t say this is the softest cashmere I have felt, but I am also not an expert and I do not own a lot of cashmere pieces. As I run my hands across the fibres, I could feel a bit of texture, not the buttery soft feeling. I could have a thin layer underneath for additional warmth, but the fibres are so soft I did not need another layer to prevent itchiness. After a full day of wear in a nice autumn day with some warmth from the sun and a light breeze, I would say this piece kept me warm without that stuffy feeling, there were no itchines on the skin or anything scratching my body so I am very happy with this sweater.

Overall

I have only worn this a handful of times, but everytime I wear it, I get compliments on how the red colour looks great on my skin. I have yet to see any pilling or gotten any stains on it. I also use a cashmere deodourising spray on all my garments after wearing and letting it air out for at least 24hrs before storing it back into my wardrobe with cedar balls to prevent moths. I only wash my cashmere pieces maybe once a season if I have been wearing the same piece many times. I would spot clean if needed with a laundry liquid formulated for cashmere pieces.

I would purchase another piece from them, or even purchase a piece for my husband because it is high quality and very warm. Currently, this colourway is sold out on their website, but they do restock. The next colour I may pick up would be Fawn or Grey Marle, otherwise I may pick up their cardigan. They also do men’s cashmere which is a great birthday gift idea.
