Chanel L’Eau De Mousse Water-to-foam Cleanser

Chanel beauty haul

Where I got it

I have recently uploaded a review of the Chanel L’Huile Anti-pollution cleansing oil and explained that Auckland is finally out of a two and a half month long lock-down, and retailers are open again. However, for personal reasons, we decided to keep our young kids at home (5 and 7), and I will be working from home until at least early 2022. Anyway, I was told by my Chanel beauty SA that they were doing a “black friday” offer (don’t think it is official?) for a black pouch as gift with purchase. I ended up being offered this free pouch for purchase over $250 (initially she told me $500). It was an empty pouch and a leather-like material (likely PVC) with gold zipper. I decided to order an oil cleanser, a foaming cleaner and their famous egg-shaped hand cream. It was shipped to be complimentary all wrapped in holiday ribbons! So festive!

I have an unboxing video of this order over on my IG (@kittiemui). Make sure you follow me there as I am quite active over there!

What I got

This is the Chanel L’Eau De Mousse Water-to-foam Cleanser ($85 for 150ml). L’EAU DE MOUSSE is a self-foaming cleanser. In just one pump, this light micellar water transforms into a luxurious foam that purifies the skin, all while preserving its natural barrier. Its thick, ultra-soft foam allows for meticulous skin cleansing without friction for an addictive sensory experience. Perfectly clean, the skin is comfortable and looks luminous. Soap-free and formulated with gentle surfactants, L’EAU DE MOUSSE is enriched with amino acid derivatives and mineral-replenishing marine spring water to gently purify the skin and preserve its balance. In addition, it combines two marine plant extracts, signature active ingredients in THE CLEANSING COLLECTION, which help combat pollution, all while preserving the skin’s essential functions.

How I find it

Initially, I was not planning on getting this cleanser because I have not been using a foaming cleanser for a while and always deem them to be too stripping or too drying. This water-to-foam cleanser is new to Chanel, therefore I was not able to find it on the Smith & Caugheys. This is one of those cleansers that is a water to start with, and turns into a foam when you pump it out. It is a second-step cleansing, meaning that you will need to use a first cleanse (i.e. oil cleanser or balm cleanser) to remove the makeup and sunscreen first, and then use this.

The cleanser pumps out looking like a mousse, but it’s soft like foam. I use about 2 pumps to effectively cleanse my entire face. The foam doesn’t disappear when you massage, so that’s why I mentioned it was more like a mousse because usually the foam bubbles would pop when you massage onto the face and you would feel it is quite watery and not really doing anything. The lather stays on for a good massage and then it is easily rinsed off with water without leaving any residue. Skin feels clean, but not squeaky clean.

Overall

I wasn’t sure what I was expecting of this Chanel foaming cleanser. On one hand I was worried about an overly drying foaming cleanser, but on the other hand I expect a little bit more from Chanel to be stripping. For a few years now, I always think “oh Chanel is just selling expensive skincare because of it’s brand name and marketing, they don’t really know how to do proper, effective skincare”, but after using their products, I do feel that their products do work. However, maybe suitable for more normal skin, without specific skin issues such as acne, pigmentation, rosacea, etc. It focuses on more hydration, moisturisation, and overall anti-ageing. Their high end range probably has a lot more science and high-technology behind it, but I have not looked into those at all. Chanel is a luxury brand so even if they do skincare, they will of course be high end and have a luxury price tag to it. Most of all, it will have fragrance to give you that amazing sensorial experience as whole package.

I personally enjoy the products, from the packaging to the texture, including the scent and how the product looks on my vanity. It sparks joy to me. If you like my content, please follow me on Instagram (@kittiemui)
