Beauty Heroes Box – June 2021 – Blüh Alchemy

Where I got it

After my first Beauty Heroes Discovery box in January 2021, I ordered another other in May which was a discovery of the brand Blissoma. I loved both boxes and the fact that they did 2-3 products in each box sit quite well with me because I find it difficult to finish products I purchase or get sent every month. Beauty Heroes boxes encourage mix and matching skincare products and tailoring a skincare routine that would work best for your own skin and targeting your skin goals. For the month of June, we are discovering Blüh Alchemy and there are 2 products – an antioxidant oil and a night cream. I can easily pair this with the May box which was a brightening serum and a day cream with SPF – no over-lapping of products for the month of May and June (nice).

The subscription box service renews every month at the end of the month (so it charges my credit card around the 27th of May for the June box, and so on). They do not really do sneak peeks of the next box, so if you are on a subscription, it is like a lucky dip. If you want to know exactly what you are getting in the box, you will need to wait for the reveal and then decide to purchase it as a one-off box or sign up as a new subscription. This month’s box is USD$77.90 (including shipping to NZ) which is approximately NZD$110, and the value of the contents is USD$180.

What I got

For the month of June, we are discovering Blüh Alchemy. Collagen is essential for taut, smooth and strong skin barrier-but collagen breakdown occurs continuously. Introducing the newest launch from BLÜH ALCHEMY and June’s Hero product Nocturnal Repair Active Emulsion which works while you sleep to tackle collagen breakdown before it begins, while also boosting natural protein production and strengthening the skin barrier. June’s full-size sidekick, Antioxidant Face Oil, delivers a diverse combination of targeted antioxidants that work (day or night) to protect against signs of sun damage and help your skin appear brighter and more evenly toned.

If you want to learn more about how the Nocturnal Repair Active Emulsion intervenes in the glycation process, Beauty Heroes has a very good article here.

Antioxidant Face Oil

How I find it

This is the my first time trying Bluh Alchemy and I am quite pleased that I am trying a facial oil and a new overnight emulsion product. I currently do not have a facial oil in my skincare routine, but it is a good time to add one in because we are fully in winter here in New Zealand. I started to incorporate this Antioxidant Face Oil in my day and night routine for the first week, I would cleanse, hydrate and then use a facial oil. I use only half a pump when I mix it with a moisturiser or the Noucturnal Repair Active Emulsion. If I use this on it’s own without a moisturiser on top, I will use one full pump.

Using this during the day gives my skin a glow boost immediately and it provides lasting hydration for my skin. It is more or a medium-weight oil, so I only use about half a pump during the day and that is plenty. It does take a good 2-3 minutes to really sink into the skin without my sunscreen or foundation slipping around. I would say that if you have oily skin you might want to stick to using it at night.

Antioxidant Face Oil

As for the Nocturnal Repair Active Emulsion, it is formulated to be used at night, not because it causes sensitivity to UV rays, so even if you use it at daytime, it wouldn’t be an issue. However, the repair work that this formula provides works better at night time. The emulsion is a yellow-tinted lotion, a medium weight I would say, it mixes quite well on top of, or mixed with the Antioxidant Face Oil mentioned above. It envelopes the skin with moisture and it does take my skin a good 5 minutes to really sink in.

Nocturnal Repair Active Emulsion

Overall

Both products are on the medium to the heavier weight of the spectrum of products I usually use, so I think if you have dry skin, your skin will love this! I have combination skin which can be a little dry on the cheeks during winter, so I can handle half a pump of the oil during the day provided I give it enough time to sink in. At night, I can use a full pump of the emulsion and prefer not to use the oil as well because it would be a little too heavy on my skin. I would prefer to use the emulsion every night, or every other night when I am using Tretinoin, but I would prefer to use the oil may be only twice a week during the day.
