Foreo UFO vs UFO mini

UPDATE 20/11/2023 – Foreo is currently doing their biggest sale at the moment for Black Friday and you can save 50% off the FOREO 2 and 40% off the FOREO mini 2. The current discount is already their Black Friday sale and there WILL NOT be any further discount. Make sure you purchase before stock runs out as they will not be restocked until after BF sales!

Where I got it

If you have been reading my blog recently, you may have seen my post on the Foreo Bear, Bear mini and UFO reviews and comparisons. After my Foreo UFO review about 3 months ago, I was contacted by Foreo’s marketing team to do a review of the UFO mini as well and I was over the moon! The fact that they really enjoyed my content and thought I would be a good candidate to try out and review their products made me really happy. Thank you to the team at Foreo for sending me this!

If you haven’t seen my first post on the Foreo UFO, here is the link, otherwise I will just give a brief overview here. It is a smart masking device combining 4 amazing technologies – thermotherapy, cryotherapy, LED therapy and T-sonic pulsations. Let’s not forget the Korean-formulated mask sheets as well! It boasts skin-benefiting facial treatments in 90 seconds and with each different mask formulation, the device uses different LED lights, heat, cool and t-sonic intensities to effectively infuse the skincare ingredients into the skin. It can also be used manually without the app for a longer LED treatment or t-sonic massage, etc. You really get a lot of treatment technologies in one device. I will do a comparison of the two devices at the end of this post.

The Foreo UFO mini is not sold in a lot of retail shops in New Zealand, and I was only able to find it on Smith & Caughey’s website for NZD$189, or Recreateyourself.co.nz for NZD$139.40. Lookfantastic.co.nz and BeautyBay.com also sells these at around a similar price range. The mini version is significantly more affordable than the standard version (around $329). Each new device comes with a USB port charging cable, a device stand and a single-use Make My Day mask.

What I got

This is the Foreo UFO mini Smart Masking Device. Comes in 3 different colours and mine here is mint. Slim, simple, and designed to help you mask smarter, UFO mini offers a full facial treatment whether you’re at home or on the go. This vibrant device features LED light therapy and indulgent Thermo-Therapy. Together with T-Sonic pulsations, UFO mini’s innovative technology infuses mask essence deep into your skin, for a selfie-worthy complexion in 90 seconds.

How I find it

The first thing I did when I opened up the box is give the device a full charge. I would charge the device at a wall plug for the fastest charge and gives up to 40 uses after a 2-5hr charge. If this is your first Foreo device, you need to download their app first, then register the device – the instructions were simple and you can register multiple devices on one phone.

Not all of the UFO masks can be used on the mini, so you need to check before you buy, Currently, the masks that you can use on the Minis are: Make My Day, Call It a Night, Matte Maniac, Shimmer Freak, H2Overdose, Glow Addict and Youth Junkie. The masks that you cannot use on the Minis are Coconut Oil, Acai Berry, Manuka Honey, Green Tea, and Bulgarian Rose. The main reason for this is that the UFO mini does not have cryotherapy, but the size of the ring is exactly the same as the original.

So I would double cleanse my face and then pat dry, make sure my skin is nice and clean. I use the LUNA to get a deep cleanse so the mask essence can penetrate deeper. Then I select a mask to use, turn on the app on my phone and make sure Bluetooth is on. Then select the UFO mini device on the app and it will ask you to select the mask you want to use. Then the camera will turn on and you need to scan the barcode at the pack of the mask packet.

Remove the plastic ring and open the packet, place the mask sheet with the tab hanging out and replace the ring with the FOREO logo facing up. It will fit snug with the mask sheet and then it is ready to go.

Overall

OK, so while I was researching the Foreo BEAR and BEAR mini for this post, I also looked into other Foreo products as well and one of the best things I have learned is how to use the Foreo UFO without the app. In my previous post on the UFO, I complained about how the device needed to be used with the app on my phone so I couldn’t do anything with my phone while I was having the mask treatment. So what you need to do is press the on/off button on the device, it will power up and then you get to choose between the Make My Day Mask (first light) or Call It a Night Mask (second light) setting by pressing the button again once or twice, and away it goes! You won’t be able to hear and see the lady speaking on the app, however.

After getting the UFO mini, I decided to purchase more masks to try. I bought the Green Tea, Bulgarian Rose and Shimmer Freak to try with the UFO and UFO mini. I loved all of the ones I purchased and especially loved the Green Tea and H2Overdose because they both use cryotherapy. This makes me conclude that I prefer the UFO instead of the mini because it has cryotherapy.
