The Boxwalla Beauty box – The Logic of Finding Fine Things – October 2020

Where I got it

The shipping of my last two boxes from Boxwalla were significantly delayed by Covid-19 lockdown and I actually had one box (June) lost in transit (cry). Both boxes I managed to get arrive about a month after it was shipped! I have no clue why and it was even after delivery delays were back to normal (in NZ anyway).

So for the October box, I waited and waited for it to arrive and was expecting to see it in November. I ended up checking my emails and account to see if I have a tracking number and to my surprise, my subscription did not continue for the October box! So I immediately ordered this box before it ran out!

Honestly, having two beauty subscription boxes, even thought this was bi-monthly, I have a hard time catching up on using all the products up. So I decided to order single boxes instead of getting subscriptions. Anyway, I order this box on 12/11 and it arrived on 10/12.

Boxwalla Beauty Box – The Logic of Finding Fine Things – October 2020

What I got

For the month of October/November, the theme for the Beauty box from Boxwalla is The Logic of Finding Fine Things.  This box contains three skincare products which is worth $181.

Naturallogic Unmask Detox Hydration mask (full size 60ml, $58). Made in a hydrating base of aloe vera juice and geranium distillate, the combination of activated charcoal, AHA complex, niacinamide, hemp seed oil, cranberry fruit extract, chamomile extract (and more!), both deeply cleanses & refines the skin, while also hydrating, healing & restoring the skin. Unmask is a unique, ready to use mask that somehow manages to both clarify as well as hydrate the skin, leaving it supple, clear and glowing! As I mentioned above, Unmask contains some potent, thoughtfully chosen ingredients & I thought I’d tell you more about Niacinamide! Vitamin B3 or niacinamide is a water soluble vitamin that does sooo much for the skin! It improves the skin’s barrier function, reduces skin sensitivity as well as hyperpigmentation. It also promotes collagen synthesis and glycosaminoglycan production. According to some studies, it is thought that a lot of these skin benefits of niacinamide comes from its ability to increase the intracellular concentration of NADPH (cellular energy) which depletes with age.

Ingredients: Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Juice*, Pelargonium Graveolens (Geranium) Distillate**, Vegetable Glycerin,  AHA Complex: (Saccharum Officinarum [Cane Sugar] Extract*, Citrus Sinensis [Orange] Peel Extract*, Citrus Limon [Lemon]*, Acer Saccharum [Maple Sugar]*, Bilberry*, Vaccinium Macrocarpon [Cranberry] Fruit Extract*), Activated Charcoal, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Ricinus Communis (Castor Bean) Oil*, Cannabis Sativa (Hemp) Seed Oil*, Xanthan Gum, MSM (Methylsulfonylmethane), Lonicera Japonica (Honeysuckle) Extract*, Matricaria  Chamomilla (Chamomile) Extract*, Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract*, Allantoin, Leucidal Liquid (Radish Root Ferment Filtrate), Zeolite Clay, Calendula Officinalis (Calendula) Extract*, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Oil CO2 Extract, Citrus Bergamia (Bergamot) Oil, Citrus Sinensis (Orange) Peel Oil, Eugenia Caryophyllata (Clove Bud) Oil, Cymbopogon Citratus (Lemongrass) Oil.

Fine Cosmetics’ Daytime Radiance Eye Serum (full size 30ml, $66). This is an elegantly ingenious eye serum – a true serum that is water based with ingredients like Persian silk tree extract, beet root extract, protective & firming ashwagandha extract, grape leaf extract, niacinamide, elderberry fruit extract, high molecular hyaluronic acid & more. I love how it de-puffs & firms my under eye region while deeply hydrating it. It also reduces dark circles & crow’s feet. One of the main ingredients in this wonderful eye serum is Persian silk tree extract or Albizia Julibrissin, an antioxidant which has powerful anti-glycation properties. The process of glycation involves the adherence of sugar molecules to the collagen & elastin proteins leading to loss of elasticity & firmness. This potent extract both prevents glycation & also breaks the binding of sugars to proteins thus reducing glycation effects. In addition to this, the Persian silk tree extract is also anti-inflammatory, evens skin tone, reduces dark circles & improves the texture of skin.

Ingredients: Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Water*, Lactobacillus Ferment, Glycerin, Aqua (Water), Maris Aqua (Sea Water), Beta Vulgaris (Beet) Root Extract, Albizia Julibrissin Bark (Persion Silk Tree) Extract, Niacinamide, Sodium Hyaluronate, Calcium Pantothenate (Panthenol), Darutoside, Withania Somnifera (Ashwaganda) Root Extract, Vitis Vinifera (Grape) Leaf Extract, Sambucus Nigra (Elderberry) Fruit Extract*, Hydrolyzed Corn Starch, Sclerotium Gum, Fructose, Sodium Benzoate, Potassium Sorbate, Citric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, Lactic Acid, Alcohol, p-Anisic Acid.

Naturallogic Elemental Advanced Hydration Red Wine Essence (full-size 60ml, $58). This is a beautiful lightweight essence but oh so much more than an essence! Elemental Red Wine essence is made in a base of organic red wine that is crafted in-house. The wine takes half a year to produce & harvest and is rich in polyphenols, resveratrol and gluconic acid. In addition to the red wine, the essence also contains soothing, hydrating aloe juice as well as coconut water that helps mineralize the skin, aka restore its mineral balance. Vitamin B3 strengthens the barrier function, balances the level of moisture in the skin, increasing the skin’s natural hydration. And then there is the red algae – a rich source of polysaccharides that is instantly hydrating due to its ability to enhance the skin’s natural barrier function and increase its moisture-retention capabilities. This is such a wonderful multitasking product that works beautifully as your first step after cleansing (after your eye serum) to balance the pH of the skin while also deeply hydrating, strengthening, plumping and brightening the skin.

Ingredients: Vitis Vinifera (Red Wine Grape) Juice/Saccharomyces*, Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe Vera) Leaf Juice*, Propanediol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Water*,  Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Bark, Leaf and Twig Extract*, Niacinamide (Vitamin B3), Vegetable Glycerin, Asparagopsis Armata (Red Algae) Extract, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Leucidal (Radish Root Ferment Filtrate), Saccharomyces Ferment, Glucono Delta Lactone, Panthenol (Vitamin B5), Sodium Hyaluronate (Hyaluronic Acid), Squalane, Xanthan Gum, Lecithin, Sclerotium Gum, Guar Gum.

How I find it

Naturallogic Unmask Detox Hydration mask. Honestly, I have been intrigued by this mask ever since it was announced to be in the box. I started seeing many people posting great reviews, and even from people who did not get this from the Boxwalla box. It is a hydrating detox mask that doesn’t dry up.

When I opened up the glass jar, this deep black runny gel is so mesmerising to watch. It looks flawless and you have to be careful not to spill. The runny gel texture is all thanks to its main ingredient – aloe vera, and the black colour is from the activated charcoal.

The application of this mask can get a little messy because the gel is quite viscous and can get a little stringy. I use a spoon to get a generous amount onto a small container or plate and then use a silicone spatula (my favourite tool to apply any kind of masks except for clay masks) to apply all over the face. You can see that the mask is quite thin and transparent, so it’s not opaque black as it seems in the jar. It doesn’t really dry down so I leave it on for 15-20 minutes and then rinse off.
The mask leaves my skin hydrated and without any charcoal residue.

Fine Cosmetics’ Daytime Radiance Eye Serum. Fine Cosmetics is a brand that is new to me – I have never tried it, nor heard of it. Yet, the packaging of this brand is really appealing and interesting. I did some research on this brand and they work with natural products and various German labs under strict EU cosmetic laws. “They are always 100% vegan, organic and clean – without nasty ingredients and aluminium salts.” They are certified organic and certified vegan. They have skincare and body care products.

I seldom use an eye cream, let alone eye serum, but with 30ml in size, this ultra-hydrating and lightweight serum can be used on the face as well. It has a fluid gel-serum texture without the silicone-feeling. It is watery to the touch and gives light hydration to the skin. It doesn’t burden the skin around the eye area so it is a joy to use. If you have dry skin around the eye area, you might need to add an eye cream on top of this.

Naturallogic Elemental Advanced Hydration Red Wine Essence. This was actually something I was interested too, from the box announcement, mainly because of the red wine essence. I was recommended this by my friend Gillian (she is such an amazing person). This is another hydrating product, but in a form of an essence. Everyone whom I follow that talks about Naturallogic, talks highly of this product (and Unmask).

It has a milky look to it in the bottle, but it is very fluid in texture and looks semi lotion-like. It has a very pale pink colour and a faint grape tannin  scent. I love using this right after spritzing on Atmosphere so everything gets absorbed deeply.

Overall

I’m so happy with this box as it contains two brands that I wanted to try and two of the products from Naturallogic I wanted to try the most. I am so glad I got this box before it sold out. I am also really impressed with the Fine Eye serum because it is so hydrating, and I really loved using this on my face as well. I am so excited to get the limited-edition Fine Feeling box next containing their Nocturnal Renewal set!

Such an amazing value for money if you are venturing into green/clean beauty. I know there are so many controversies around green/clean beauty where scientific-based beauty influencers really dislike the term “green beauty” or “clean beauty”. There are so much to talk about surrounding this topic, but personally, I love both – the scientific-proven results, and the environmentally-conscious and therapeutic benefits of holistic beauty. I’m not an expert on either side so I can’t give a full spectrum of debate, but you do what you want if it doesn’t hurt anyone else.

Love you guys!
