Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Weightless Foundation SPF15

Where I got it

I have heard so many good things about this particular foundation from Bobbi Brown that it is long-lasting and full coverage but lightweight at the same time. So I bought this when Farmers was doing an exclusive club day with 15% off all beauty products. This foundation is RRP NZD$88, and I got this for $74.80 after discount. Currently my favourite foundations – Clarins Skin Illusions and Too Faced Peach Perfect are $66 and $57 respectively so RRP$88 is significantly more expensive. Hopefully, this foundation does what it claims to do!

What I got

This is a 30ml bottle of the Bobbi Brown Skin Long-wear Weightless Foundation in shade 2.5 Warm Sand. A 16-hour wear, full coverage foundation with a natural, multidimensional matte finish that’s comfortable, breathable and weightless. Comes in 30 shades.

Created through a high speed cold fusion process, this ultra-silky emulsion features a perfectly balanced blend of skin-loving ingredients, oil controlling actives and skin-true pigments. Incredibly smooth and blendable, it glides on with a second-skin feel and multidimensional matte finish. Pigments are precisely balanced through artistry expertise to skin’s top tones and undertones to deliver the most natural-looking shade range for all skin tones.

How I find it

When I got this foundation, I also bought the Vitamin Enriched Face Base, so I tried this for the first time with the Face Base as a moisturising primer. This is a rather thick liquid foundation and claims to provide full coverage and feel weightless at the same time. I love my foundation feeling lightweight and not cakey but provides at least a medium coverage. Either natural or semi-matte finish would be ideal.

The photo below doesn’t really do it justice in regards to coverage because I accidentally pumped too much out and I wiped like half of the amount off with a tissue and blended the rest into my hand. This formula surely is buildable, with 2 full pumps, it will cover my entire face with sheer to medium coverage and still maintain very lightweight feel and look. With another full pump, I will concentrate on my problem areas such as cheeks and jawline where I have acne scarring and redness. Those areas would achieve pretty much full coverage.

The foundation really does feel weightless and the finish on the skin is natural-looking and there are no dry patches or weird bunching up anywhere on my face. Shade 2.5 warm sand is the in-between shade between 2 and 3 and it has a neutral undertone. 2 is quite light and 3 is deeper with a more golden undertone.

You don’t really need to set the foundation if you have normal to dry skin, but with combination and oily skin, setting it with loose powder or a pressed powder would further extend the wear of the foundation.

Overall

After using this for a least 10 times over a span on a few months, I do really like it. It is more on the full coverage, long-lasting spectrum and I don’t usually go for foundation like this on a day-to-day basis. I like to use this when I have an event to go to, a dinner date or just when I want to look flawless and glam.

I pay a lot of attention when I have to build up coverage by applying a second layer of foundation. That’s when things usually go wrong. I have done a lot of trial and error and it really comes down to the formula or the foundation. If the foundation dries down quite quickly, I would focus on sections of my face, build up to the desired coverage, and move onto another area. I would also use a damp sponge to blend it out evenly and quickly. If you have more time to blend the foundation (i.e. the foundation stays quite wet), you can blend the entire face first, then build up another layer of foundation for more coverage. I would mostly use a damp beauty sponge for most liquid foundations.
