L.A Girl ProMatte Foundation

Where I got it: I got this from the Love My Makeup store in Sylvia Park for $14.99. They are also available online from their website and you get free shipping if you spend over $25 in one go. L.A Girl is also available in some Life Pharmacies, but I have yet to see this foundation range on their stands.

What I got: This is a 30ml bottle of the L.A Girl ProMatte Foundation in Medium Beige. With a soft and suede-like finish, PRO.matte Foundation will have you covered and shine-free all day. Creamy, liquid formula provides smooth and buildable coverage for both day and nighttime wear. Minimize the appearance of pores and fine lines for an even, soft-focus effect. Paraben-free formula with added vitamin E, B5 & sunflower oil.

How I find it: From the website, I thought the shade Natural would be my shade, but when I went to the store to swatch the shades, natural was a little too pink for me and Medium Beige looks perfect. The frosted bottle does make the foundation look lighter on the bottle too. So if you can, it is best to swatch it. It comes with a pump and I would use 1 pump for the entire face, and about half a pump more for areas I needed more coverage (cheeks and chin area). I like to pump the foundation out onto the back of my hand and then use my fingertips to dab it onto my face. Then I either use a damp beauty sponge or a paddle brush to blend the foundation. I find that using a damp sponge soaks up a bit of product, but it does give me a very soft, flawless look. It is much easier to blend with a sponge as well because it does dry down fast.

About 10 minutes after application, I can feel my skin feeling a little dry and tight. I think it’s probably because of it’s matte formula, it is doing a bit of oil-controlling. However, about 2 hours of wear, I started seeing my oily areas (nose and forehead) getting shiny, but my skin still feels a bit dry. I suspect that either the foundation was drying out my skin or that my skin is dehydrated, hence the feeling dry on the inside, but oily on the outside.

After about 2-3 hours of wear, I did see the foundation sink into some fine lines around my mouth and some areas look crackly because my skin was a little dry. The foundation did not really oxidize thought, the shade still looked really good on my skin.

After about 4 hours I can see a lot of my oil has come through and it is not longer looking matte. It has somehow looked a little cakey as well. Not very happy with it.

Overall: Alright, so I’m not too crazy about this foundation. The formula was a little too matte or too drying for my skin or my preference. I don’t like my skin looking overly matte to the point that looks fake. I have combination/oily skin and from experience, if I wear something very matte, my skin tends to get dehydrated and my skin will make excess sebum to try and compensate the dryness. Also, I often find matte foundations to be quite heavy, clings to dry areas and sink into lines. Unfortunately, not something I would reach for often. At least it’s not that expensive. I might give it to someone who has a little skin type to me and see how they like it.
