Rouge Dior Sequin Liquid Duo

Where I got it

I got these from a reputable local seller that buys on behalf of a group that I am a part of on WeChat. I order via her because she could get 15% off even for new launches, and she gets her products directly from the Dior boutique in Commercial Bay.

If you are in New Zealand, you would understand the frustration that is we don’t have a lot of Dior counters and there is only one proper Dior store in Auckland. Dior counters at some pharmacies do not even carry the entire collection. Therefore our only other option is to shop online.

Anyway, I need to consider again for buying from this seller because I ordered this in September, adding items to it in October, telling me that stock would arrive in mid-October, and finally arriving in min-November. I was a little annoyed because the website has already been selling it, and I was hoping to get it early. Nonetheless, I got it discounted. The liquid duos were $88, and I got these for $75.

What I got

How I find it

Let’s start with lip-prep. I do recommend a little bit of preparation before using this as the liquid lipstick might accentuate dry skin. I regularly apply lip balm and lip mask so my lips are usually in good condition except for a little bit of surface dryness and have rather deep pigmentation. While doing my makeup, I would apply a good lip balm/lip mask and let that sit for a few minutes. When I am ready to apply the liquid duo, I would wipe off the excess with a piece of tissue. If you use the liquid duo directly on lip balm, it would not dry down properly and would not last.

I apply in light layers of the liquid lipstick all over my lips, because it would take a long time to dry and would be streaky. You will definitely need to dip into the tube 1-2 times per application. Once applied, try not to press your lips until the formula has dried down. Once the layer has dried down , gentle press your lips and move it a little bit to activate the glitter. You will see that the glitter particles are now more obvious. I would then just wait for a minute before applying the clear gloss on top.

The clear gloss has a bristle-style applicator and I would actually prefer a sponge tip applicator because the bristles do not apply evenly. Anyway, the clear gloss is suppose to give the lip colour a gossy finish, but at the same time it compromised the longevity of the liquid lipstick. When just applied, the overall look of the lips are really beautiful. The glitter is subtle and not like child’s makeup, so it just gives your lips that extra sparkle.

As you can see shade 100 and 520 look very similar in the tube, but on the lips, shade 100 is significantly lighter. Shade 520 is deeper and suits my natural lip colour a lot more. The glitter on both shades are quite beautiful. Once applied, I can hardly feel the texture of the glitter, but I can definitely feel the texture of the lipstick, which is slightly dry on the lips. It feels just like putting on liquid lipstick.

Overall

This new lipstick duo has been heavily compared with the Chanel Duo Ultra Tenue Ultra Wear Liquid Lipstick. I do own 3 of the Chanel liquid lipsticks, and I really like the formula. The liquid lipstick in the Dior is quite dry compared to Chanel, and the gloss in the Dior is not as glossy as Chanel.  Chanel has great staying power even with the gloss applied over the lip colour, but Dior does wipe or rub off as soon as you apply the gloss.

Overall, I prefer Chanel over Dior, but the packaging by Dior is gorgeous. I would like to try more shades by Dior that do not have the glitter.
