Olay Regenerist Antioxidant Serum and Moisturiser

Where I got it

I was sent this from BeautyReview.co.nz for my honest review as part of the Beauty Trial team. These serums and moisturisers are new products from Olay and they can be found at Chemist Warehouse, Farmers, Pharmacies and many other retailers. They are just a bit over drugstore prices so expect to pay around $50-$60 for each product.

How I find it

Starting with the serum, it has that signature Olay serum bottle design where you twist it open and the dropper sucks up the product automatically, and it is the perfect dose you need for the entire face and neck. I love this design a lot and it is very ergonomic on the hand as well. It can be a little slippery to twist open when your hand is wet or greasy, but that’s the only downside. The serum is semi-translucent with a fresh scent. The texture is as I expected it to be, silky and smooth from the dimethicone. Not too slippery that it doesn’t sink into the skin. It is lightly hydrating so it is great to layer on after a watery hydrating toner/essence if you wish. I could also use another serum over this if I want to before I go for my moisturiser.

Then we have the moisturiser which I don’t have much to ask about in terms of packaging. It is a simple jar packaging with a protective lid. However, I would like to touch on the cardboard packaging of Olay products. They are notorious for having extra space in the box which I thought could be a little deceiving. It looks like the product is bigger than it is. Olay could easily design better packaging to avoid this deception and provide sufficient protection of the product at the same time (I have seen many other brands do this magnificently).

Anyway, besides packaging issues, the jar of moisturiser looks beautiful. The moisturiser is filled to the brim and also comes with a protective inner lid. The medium-weight cream is silky to apply and smoothing on the skin thanks to the dimethicone and texture-enhancing ingredients. I love a good sensorial experience and this cream along with the serum has the same refreshing scent that is not offensive and fades soon after application. It envelopes my skin with moisture and it feels comfortable for the rest of the day without feeling greasy or heavy.

Overall

I really enjoyed both of these products – the texture, the bottle packaging as well as the sensorial experience. I have used this for over 6 weeks and have noticed that I do prefer the serum over the moisturiser. This is a personal preference because they have the same active ingredients – vitamins B3, C, and E. I am always under the impression that my serum should contain all the active ingredients and that my moisturiser can just be a simple cream that seals everything in. If both the serum and moisturiser contains the same or similar ingredients, I only need one of them.

In terms of skincare benefits that this serum and moisturiser claims to achieve, I would say that my skin feels moisturised but that’s all I can say about it. I would love to use it until finished and again, but it’s not like I would reach for it for brightening my skin. I would far prefer the serum.
