Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Blush

Where I got it

Most of the time I check out new items arriving at Mecca maybe once a week or even less, so I seldom go into the physical store unless I wanted to smell something or swatch something before I buy. One day, I casually went in and looked around for new products and I saw in one of the “new products” stands this Laura Mercier blushes for $45 each. I thought the price was quite nice so I decided to test out the texture, pigmentation, and shades. The first few swatches really wowed me on how pigmented it is and the shades were really pretty. There are generally two types of finishes – matte and satin. On the LM’s website, it doesn’t clearly indicate which are matte and which have a satin finish.

What I got

I picked up the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser Blush (15ml) in shade Mediterranee and Promenade. Put the finishing pats on any no-makeup makeup look with just a hint of natural, long-lasting cheek color. Laura Mercier, creator of the iconic Tinted Moisturizer, brings the same skincare-meets-makeup magic to a new effortless blush formula. Ultra-moisturizing botanicals impart 12 hours of weightless tinted hydration: Raspberry seed helps to condition while prickly pear contains a high content of water-building compounds for ultimate skin hydration. 14 adaptable shades give every skin tone a barely flushed, just-pinched glow.

How I find it

For my earlier makeup day, I like to use powder blushes and hardly deviate from it. However, in the last 7-8 years, I started getting into cream blushes and they usually come in little pots, and more recently they come in these tubes and they are highly pigmented. I think I am still working on using these pigmented cream blushes because they are very pigmented and are not as easy as just using my fingers to tap them on. After a couple of trial-and-error, I prefer to use a blush brush to apply this product. I have found a lot of success by using my new Rose Inc. blush brush which is designed to be used with cream blushes. One thing I need to keep in mind is how pigmented the formula is and how wet the formula is. After squeezing the product on the back of my hand, I work the blush out with my blush brush and then tap it onto my cheeks. I have plenty of time to work the blush with the brush before applying it to my cheeks. Using a tapping motion instead of a sweeping motion works better for me so I don’t move my foundation.

The blush, when first applied, feels wet so it has time to work with, and it settles down to a natural finish. Mediterranee has a matte finish and Promenade has a satin finish. But once it is blended into the skin, the finish all look quite the same. A creamy blush like this is probably not the best for beginners in makeup, especially if you don’t have the right tools to work a slightly wet blush that is also very pigmented. I would say if you want to wear this on its own without a foundation, you can easily apply this with your fingertips, but you’d still need to be careful of the pigmentation.

Overall

I am very happy with the formula once I got the hang of it. The wet formula means that it has a lot of playtime, but at the same time can move your foundation or base layer a lot easier if you use a sweeping motion. This is by no means a blush that you can apply straight onto your cheeks and then work it out from there. You need to blend it out on the back of your hand or on a palette before you apply it to the cheeks. The colour payoff is amazing so you don’t need to worry about losing all the pigmentation somewhere else. In regards to the longevity of these blushes, I am very impressed. I have worn this blush for a full day (about 8 hours) and I can still see it on my face. I do have combination-oily skin, but my cheeks are quite normal. If I wear a dewy foundation, it will slide a bit because my foundation would move, but it’s not because of the blush. In terms of moisturising benefits of the blush, I would say that it feels moisturising when you first apply it, but once it settles down, it is just a normal blush and does not provide long-lasting moisture/hydration.
