Shiseido haul – skincare and makeup

Where I got it

I recently shared a post on my Instagram about Shiseido gift with purchase that went on in April and I also shared the products I bought during this offer. First trip to my local Shiseido see me buying their new Essential Energy Hydrating Cream and their Sunscreen Stick SPF50 and I got the White Lucent version of the gift with purchase. Then I received a call from them telling me new stock has arrived for the men’s moisturiser and I have reserved one for my hubby. Needless to day, it is dangerous for me to shop when there is a gift with purchase offer going on. The men’s moisturise has sold out yet again, and while I was there, I decided to purchase some more items to get another gift. She mentioned that the shopping centre was doing a gift card event where you get $35 gift card if you spend $300 in the centre within the same day. So I ended up picking up a total of 4 items in this shopping trip. She offered to separate the transaction for me so I get TWO gift with purchases and I was thrilled!

What I got

I picked up a couple of items, and some of them are spontaneous purchases. I picked up the Essential Energy Hydrating Cream ($91 for 50ml), a Clear Suncare Stick SPF50 PA++++ ($55 for 20g), a Shiseido Men Total Revitalizer Cream ($138 for 50ml), a Perfect Cleansing Oil ($71 for 180ml), a Ultimune Power Infusing Hand Cream ($55 for 75ml), and a Syncho Skin Tinted Gel Cream ($70 for 40ml).

How I find it

The Essential Energy Hydrating Cream was one of the first 2 items I bought and this is a new product in their Essential Energy range. This is designed to be paired with the Ultimune Concentrate with the HyaluronicAcidRED. This cream is hydrating, plumping, moisturising and feels lightweight. This is a refillable jar so I can replace the inner part when I’m finished and pop in a new refill. I love using this during the day and at night as well. It feels nice on the skin and keeps my skin hydrated and moisturised during the dry nights but also comfortable during the day even when it’s hot outside. Loving this so far.

I love Shiseido sunscreens and I have been using their sunscreen for years and years. Their formula has improved and reformulated a couple of times and each time they do, it gets even better. As a Japanese brand, they do really good light-weight, watery-light sunscreen with great PA rating. I have always used SPF30 as a minimum and now the standard SPF seems to be 50 is most new products and PA ratings are slowly more common in Western sunscreens as well. Whilst I love Shiseido liquid sunscreens, I also love their sunscreen sticks. They used to make these white ones and tinted ones which I also used. They were quite thick and gives a really significant white cast. Now, this Clear Suncare Stick, is their only stick sunscreen on offer and it is clear and without any white cast.

I love to use this as reapplication during the day only because it gets a little difficult to ensure even application with a stick and you will need a good few swipes to get good coverage. But for reapplication, this one does the job and doesn’t get your fingers dirty. Sunscreen sticks I have tried so far gives a dewy or glowy finish. Some might even say it looks greasy, but you can easily apply a pressed powder or loose powder over it to tone the glow down, but personally, I quite like the glow. This one here, it is more of a medium glow and feels dry to the touch instead of sticky or greasy. I also like to warm the stick up a little bit on the back of my hand before I run it over my skin. You can apply over makeup, but no doubt it will move your makeup slightly, but it won’t remove your foundation entirely.

The Men Total Revitalizer Cream has been a staple on my hubby’s side of the vanity. He has been a fan of Shiseido from teenage years (heavily influence by my mother in law). He hardly changed brands even when I offer him something new (he is a loyal one). He used to use use a hydrating lotion, until he complained about dry skin as he got older. I got him this moisturiser (since have been repackaged) along with a lightweight hydration lotion for summer. I also managed to get him the Ultimune Men Serum as well as a sunscreen. This cream gives him the hydration and moisture that his combination/dehydrated skin needs. He has similar skin type to mine and doesn’t like all these skincare steps so this cream just does everything for him. He can use it day and night and won’t feel dry and tight.

I have tried a travel-sized of the Perfect Cleansing Oil from a previous gift with purchase offer and it has been one of the products in my list to purchase if I need to get something from Shiseido. It is not exactly the more affordable makeup removing oil, but it does the job right. I often massage it over the eye area as well and it removes mascara and eyeliner effortlessly. I wouldn’t say this is anything special, therefore it is probably not something I will repurchase.

There is a small 40ml tube of the Ultimune Power Infusing Hand Cream in the gift with purchase so it is probably not something I would purchase full sized if I would recommend. This full-sized tube is 75ml which is just shy of double the size of the free gift. What kind of sold me was that it is in the Ultimune range which I’m assuming it has the similar effective ingredients as the famous concentrate. The beautiful metallic pink tube is simply beautiful and at $55, it is not exactly expensive if it is a good hand cream for anti-ageing on the hands. It is silky soft bon the skin, it is not sticky or greasy and smells pleasant.

Lastly, I decided to pick up some makeup because I was just about $60 from getting a gift-card offer from the mall and getting a second gift with purchase. Yes, I ended up getting two gift with purchase from the second trip to Shiseido (total 3 sets), by splitting my purchase. I decided to pick up the Syncho Skin Self-refreshing Tint, which I believe is new (?). The tint has SPF23 which doesn’t really mean a lot for me because I will use a separate sunscreen anyway. The tint is a very lightweight serum-like tint. I picked up shade 215 Light Buna and the formula can be forgiving if you are off by 1 shade either end. It really is a tint to just even out the skin, but does not provide coverage to issues like dark spots, blemishes and rosacea. It can disguise the look of uneven skintone and slightly balance out redness and generally make the skin appear awaken and energised.

Overall

I feel kind of giddy about using Shiseido skincare again. There are some products I really enjoy using from their brand, but at the same time I don’t really care about. I am very satisfied with the hydrating cream I got as well as the self-refreshing tint because they are both something that I would totally use in my skincare routine and they work so well on my skin. However, the cleansing oil and hand cream are just average. A drug-store hand cream like Cerave is amazing already and a Neutrogena cleansing oil is also amazing. If you want a fancy cleansing oil or balm cleanser, there are Dermalogica Precleanse or the Banila Co Zero Cleansing balm, so on.

Overall, I am glad I got these amazing gift with purchase sets that I got to try some more of Shiseido’s skincare and makeup. They are great if you want to try skincare for a while before purchasing the full sized product and for travelling.
