Dior La Mousse Off/On Foaming Cleanser

Where I got it

I ordered this from my Dior beauty SA and she is based at Commercial Bay Auckland. This cleanser was launched in the US and UK around early March and it only arrived here in April. It’s annoying, but that’s reality. Anyway, this cleanser is NZD$79 and I also bought a Lip Tattoo ($63) which brings the total order of $142. Tracy sent it over in the Valentine’s Day themed box along with a GWP. Which is a pink cosmetics pouch with a small Blooming Bouquet perfume, a Super Potent Serum sample, an Overcurl mascara sample and a sample size of the Skin Glow foundation in shade 1N.

How I find it

At first when I saw the product launch on IG, I thought this has the same name as Chanel and since I recently bought and started using the Chanel La Mousse, I thought it would be great to compare them. This cleanser actually came out of nowhere (or as I thought it did). It didn’t below to an existing range from Dior. The Super Potent range has it’s new cleanser, it’s not they HydraLife range and it’s not from their premium range as well. Nonetheless, I wasn’t expecting much of this cleanser because from what I saw online, it looked like a creamy cleanser with a high lather and foaming ability.

If you have used cleansers from Shiseido or most Japanese skincare lines, their cleansers start off as really thick and creamy, squeezes out almost like toothpaste, but once you add water to the mix and use some time to lather, it turns into a beautiful lather with dense foam. This is a cleanser where you can make use of a foaming net or a foaming pump to create thick lather. I would highly recommend using a small amount of cleanser, and then work into a lather before applying it to the skin. If you use too much cleanser and rub directly against the skin, It can be quite stripping. After washing off the lather, my skin feels clean. Almost squeaky clean which I think some oily skin people would like, but not for dry or sensitive skin.

After washing, my skin would start feeling a little dry and tight soon after so I make sure I mist my face and apply hydrating serums and lotions to keep my skin hydrated and moisturised.

Cleansing foam comparison

As you can see above, the 3 different cleansers has a thick, creamy consistency while the Dior one is slightly softer. The picture below shows how the cleanser smoothes out without water. The Chanel is quite thin, the Dior one looks more like a lotion. Then the Shiseido looks almost like a milky cleanser.

Cleansing foam comparison

All of the cleansers lathers up quite well with a little bit of water. I would use just a little bit more product with Chanel and Dior as they don’t lather up quite as thick and dense as Shiseido, but that also means its not as stripping. As you can see Chanel and Dior contains more bubbles and looks more foamy than a thick dense lather like Shiseido. Comparing these cleansers on the face, Dior and Chanel are less drying compared to Shiseido. They leave my skin soft and clean, but not squeaky clean. Shiseido does leave my skin almost squeaky clean.

Overall

Despite the initial low expectations of this cleanser, I can foresee that I will be reaching for this cleanser a lot. Even though I have not been wearing nearly as much foundation now, but I do wear sunscreen on a daily basis. And I do reapply over existing skincare/sunscreen. Reapplication during the day does mean applying over dirt and sebum so it really doesn’t really do very well with my congestion-prone skin. The skin around my chin and jaw area does have a problem with dead skin cells so I get these under the skin bumps as well as white heads and black heads.

Anyway, what I wanted to say is my skin needed something that will cleanse my skin well. Not that I need something stripping day and night, I would prefer to use this cleanser at night time or in the afternoon to remove all traces of dirt and sunscreen residue. The key is to double cleanse every day and make sure my cleansing oil or balm does not leave residue on my skin and not use something too occlusive and heavy around my jaw and chin area.
