Chanel Limited Edition Rouge Allure set and other new items

Where I got it

I was supposed to be at the Chanel Beauty Boutique 6 weeks ago to view their new products and have a complimentary makeup application. But unfortunately, we went into lockdown 2 days before my appointment. After we got back into level 3, my SA called me and told me they would be able to process my order and ship the items to me. Straight away I asked for the Limited Edition liquid lipstick set as well as the new blush shade and an eyeshadow liner from their fall/winter collection. After I did the payment through the phone, they shipped it to put and it arrived in a few days. It was neatly packaged in a plain cardboard box, so it is “unmarked”. Inside the box, this Chanel box is tied up with a black ribbon and it is in perfect condition.

The limited set was $256 for 4 liquid lipsticks, $62 for the Eyeshadow-Liner and $95 for the Powder Blush. These would cost the same if you purchase these at Smith & Caughey or Farmers, but you don’t even get a little Chanel shopping bag and you would have to “ask” for samples. My SA did ask me what kind of skincare I want and I am always into skincare, and check out the number of samples she gave me! She even gave me a perfume sample and a lipstick sample.

What I got

I ordered the Limited Edition Rouge Allure Set, a Powder Blush in 608 Ombre and an Eyeshadow-Liner in 19 Contour Beige. So the Limited Edition Rouge Allure set is a set of 4 liquid lipsticks – 2 of the Ink Fusions and 2 of the Laque. All of the shades in this set are new shades that came out in August (NZ). The powder blush in 608 Ombre and the Eyeshadow-Liner in 19 Contour Beige are also new shades as part of the Fall/Winter 2021 collection that launched during the lockdown (maybe sometime in September for NZ). The Rouge Allure set works out to cost the same as getting 4 liquid lipsticks on their own, but it does come in this beautiful cardboard box you can use as home decor.

How I find it

Let’s start with the Eyeshadow-Liner, which is also called Stylo Ombre et Contour in shade 19 Contour Beige. This is my first Stylo Ombre from Chanel. It is a kohl eyeliner that you can blend out to an eyeshadow or an eyeshadow base. I have been wanting to try one of these because I want to see if it works like the Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks. I am hoping that they will have very good stay power and that it will not melt, smudge or transfer because the LM Caviar Sticks are pretty amazing. Shade 19 Contour Beige is more of a beige-brown which looks amazing as a liner and smudged out. The texture of the eyeshadow-liner is really smooth and creamy, there were no skipping or breaking off. Sometimes when an eyeliner is too creamy, they tend to crumble and break off, but this does not. You will need to either strategically apply this to keep its pointed shape, or you will need to sharpen this somehow. Otherwise, it will get blunt and no longer have a pointed shape to create a precise, line.

The wear of this eyeshadow-liner is not as long-lasting as I have expected. It also needed a good minute or so to dry down so it won’t transfer to the upper lid area when I open my eyes. The liner/shadow doesn’t move on its own and it does look very nice on my skin tone. I have been using Lashify system (at-home lash extension system) so it looked really good with only the liner-shadow on without anything else. However, if I smudge the eye area, a little bit would transfer onto my fingers.

As you can see in the photo below, the beige eyeshadow-liner looks really natural on me. It deepens the eye area without looking like I wore a lot of makeup. I really like how it looks, I just wanted it to be more budge-proof.

This new shade of powder blush is really quite interesting. When I first saw it, I was like, that’s a really pale blush colour. I wondered how it would look on my skin tone? When I saw Michele Wang on YouTube try these on, I was intrigued as it looked really natural on her. Now that I have the product in my hands, I figured that it was pretty much just like a beige-toned blush with a hint of pink. More or less like a pinky-toned pressed powder? The initial swatch with my fingers was quite sheer and it matched my skin tone quite well actually. I had to go for a second layer to see the colour. I understand that this is the new blush formula from Chanel and the Chanel blush I have been using was the old formula that seemed more pigmented?

I took out my existing blush with the old formula to compare and I honestly could not tell a difference. I have watched some YouTube reviews of the old and new formula and some people prefer one or the other, I honestly cannot tell, even when I use a brush or when I swatch with my fingers. As you can see in the photo below, the blush made me look like I wore some bronzer. I did not put any bronzer on in the photo, but it is really natural and sheer. This is probably quite difficult to see if you have deeper skin tones, but if you have fairer skin than I do, this blush would certainly look beautiful on you and very natural as well.

Lastly, the Limited Edition Rouge Allure set. It contains 846 Rogue Particulier and 840 Rouge Paradoxal in the Ink Fusion formula. These are ultra light-weight liquid lipstick with intense pigment and a matte finish. Then 85 Corail Alternatif and 87 Rouge Irregulier in the Laque formula. The Laque is longer-wearing high-shine liquid lipstick. I own both of these formulas and I already love the Ink Fusions, but the Laque was not my favourite formula because it felt a little sticky and not as high-shine as it claims to be. However, I tested this out again at Farmers just before the lockdown when they had the new shades, and I decided to give it another chance.

The shades in this set are all vibrant reds, actually, all of the new shades (6 in each formula) are red-based. 846 was described as a “tile red” and 840 was a “burnt orange”, but I would say 846 has a blue undertone to it and 840 had an orange undertone, but I wouldn’t call it burnt orange. 85 was described as a “brick orange” and 87 was a “terracotta brown”. I honestly, would not agree with the colour description as 85 looks more coral-red than brick orange and 97 was a deepened red with a hint of brown which looks really flattering.

Overall

I would have to say I am really happy with my purchase of the limited edition set. Even though these shades come in a set and you are unable to change them up, I was already wanting to get at least 2 of these shades anyway. They are really classic, bold red shades that will be flattering to almost all skin tones. I would have preferred to either drop the 846 or 840 as they look quite similar and possibly replace them with 838 which is a more beige-toned red that would be a lot more wearable. Also, I would still want to get either 82 or 83, a muted coral and a dusty rose shade which are also easier to wear and less bold. However, I have plenty of liquid lipstick in the meantime.

See below for the lip swatches. The top 4 are the new shades in the limited edition set, and the 80 Timeless is a sample of an existing shade that my SA gave me. Then the bottom two are two of the shades that I own in the Ink Fusion and Laque formulas. As you can see, I often go for the muted tones or the dusty pinky tones so that they are more wearable on a daily basis. 80 Timeless was actually quite pretty because it has a slight fuschia tone to it and it looked quite fancy.
