Lanolips Face Base The Aussie Flyer Leave-on Recovery Mask

Where I got it

I actually got this as a gift-with-purchase offer from AdoreBeauty when I purchased a Lanolips Tinted Lip Balm. I basically purchased their lip balm purely because of this gift. I have heard many people loving Lanolips (especially the girls at AdoreBeauty), so I decided to try one for myself as well. This mask is RRP$30.03 (a strange price because it is converted from AUD). AdoreBeauty does really safe and fast shipping even when they are in Australia and their deliveries are a little delayed in this Covid situation. They always, I say, ALWAYS do amazing deals from gift with purchase, loads of free samples, discount offers, gift voucher offers, etc. I enjoy shopping there a lot.

How I find it

This mask is obviously more suitable for normal to dry skin. It contains a lot of lanolin (the brand’s star ingredient) and shea butter and cocoa seed butter, which are both very occlusive and nourishing. It does have fragrance, but it is not strong and not in high concentrations, so personally, I’m not too concerned. I do have combination skin and leaning to the oily side during summer, but dry side during winter. Therefore I would maybe use this mask when I need extra help only and maximum once every fortnight because it is quite rich. Honestly, I also love using this on my hands and body area as it is really thick and occlusive, but not too greasy and slippery.

Let’s get back to the review of this as a face mask. This mask threw all my expectations out the window because I was expecting a really creamy mask with a sticky layer that I need to tissue off. But when I opened the tube and squeeze the mask out, the mask was rather hard – like squeezing a clay mask out of a tube. The mask applies like a cream, but it takes a bit of work to smooth it on the face. Once it is massaged into the face, it almost feels dry. The only way I can think of to describe this is it feels kind of waxy once it is on my skin, but it is not suffocating my skin at all! You really need to try the texture out to see what I mean.

Once the mask is applied, I can go about doing other stuff and not worry about getting transfer to anything. It looks invisible on the skin as well without any white cast or shininess. In the morning, I simply wash my face as normal and I feel that the mask has been totally absorbed without a film on my skin.

Overall

I am pleasantly surprised with this mask because it wouldn’t have bought this without trying it first. From the ingredients overview and the general brand focus, I would expect this mask would be quite greasy and oily (think lip balm on my face). But I really loved it on my combination skin (leaning to dry cheeks during winter), it soothes and protects my skin preventing moisture loss even in wintery nights when I have the heater on. I love the texture of this mask and the finish on the skin because it feels so clean and light! So far, I have not seen any congestion on my skin and I can totally use this on my hands and elbows as a night treatment!
