Chanel Rouge Coco Bloom

Where I got it

I have been seeing these new lipsticks from Chanel on social media since early March (I think?) and was kind of looking forward to them. I already loved their Rouge Coco Flash which is a super hydrating lipstick, almost like a tinted lip balm. The Blooms are supposedly much more pigmented than Flash, but with the same hydration and moisture. I was quite eager to try swatches in store. I checked Farmers at the end of March and they did not have them yet, but I see them available online at Smith & Caughey. I refrained from purchasing them online because the swatche photos are always off somehow, so I waited for Farmers to stock them.

First week of April and they started stocking these. I went in and checked out the shades – there were a total of 20 shades (I did not swatch all of them). Shades from 110-120 (6 shades) are on the natural and nude range, the rest are pinky reds, bright reds, and berry reds. Each of these are the standard $64 each and these will become a part of the permanent line.

How I find it

I tried on some of the shades that I would wear often, so I focused on shades from 110 to about 128. Anything over 128 is quite bright and deep for me. I wanted something neutral and natural, possible something more nude. I ended picking up 110 Chance and 122 Zenith. The packaging of the Coco Bloom is veey similar to the Coco Flash, but with silver details instead of gold. At the top of the lids, you can see silver instead of gold as well.

The Coco Blooms are much more pigmented than the Coco Flashes but they are equally comfortable and moisturising on the lips. It claims to be plumping on the lips, but there were no minty or stinging sensation on the lips so I think the “plumping” might be from the hydrating and glossy effect of the formula. Shade 110 Chance is a really beautiful creamy beige with a bit of a pink undertone. It doesn’t make my lips look like I put foundation on, but it gives that nude lip look. I absolutely love this shade in this comfortable, shiny formula. Shade 122 Zenith is a gorgeous soft coral shade that really does make my lips look fuller. This is definitely my-lips-but-better shade with a hint of coral.

Overall

If you are looking for something a bit more pigment than the Coco Flashes, but with the same hydrating and moisturising formula, the Coco Blooms are a very good option. A single swipe would give you a good wash of colour and going over again would give you really good coverage on the lips. It glides on smoothly and does not look steaky at all. The shades I got were quite subtle and they applied really well and looked really good on my lips. I would expect the deeper red shades would look equally nice as well.

As you can see below, the Coco Flashes have a sheer coverage compared to the Coco Bloom, but they both have the same sort of finish and texture on the lips. The only downside to the Coco Bloom, I would say it the range of shades. I feel that it is lacking more nude shades, coral shades and pink shades. There are plenty of red varieties, and while they all look really gorgeous, I personally do not wear pigmented red lips on a daily basis. I would go for a deeper red shade in the Coco Flash formula because it looks softer on the lips.
