Make Up For Ever Reboot Foundation

Where I got it

I think I’ve been saying this all of my recent blog posts, but I’ve been heavily influenced by the girls from the Adore Beauty podcast. I already picked duo a couple they recommended including the Kerastase Magic Night Serum, the Estée Lauder Resurfacing Peel and the Ultra Violette Sunscreen. This time I’ve picked up the Make Up For Ever Reboot foundation after hearing how Hannah loved it for its “ultra-buildable” coverage and it’s something she has been switched to from heavy coverage foundations. Joanna recommends the YSL All in One Glow foundation but she has more normal to dry skin that is near perfect, so I don’t think I have same skin type as she has.

This foundation was also discount from the recent Cyber Weekend sale (Black Friday through to Cyber Monday). It says $77 on the website, but when I order it, it was $70. The cyber weekend deal was 20% off all Makeup For Ever, so it came down to $56.

How I find it

This foundation claims to be sheer to medium coverage depending on how much you layer on. It also provides natural to dewy finish that contains skincare benefits. I used to avoid any makeup that is dewy or luminous because I have oily combination skin. As I’m ageing, my skin got a bit dry and fine lines have been appearing. Mattifying foundations are much less forgiving than luminous or natural finish foundations, so I find myself going for natural to luminous finish foundations for at least 2 years now.

Anyway, I figured that this foundation can be worn with or without a primer because of its sort of serum-foundation nature. I like to wear it as a BB cream or a skin tint so that my skin shows through, so I would either use a smoothing primer or hydrating primer underneath. Sometimes I can’t not use any primers.

I use a good pump of this to the back of my hand, dot it in my face with fingertips, and then blend with either a damp sponge or a dense kabuki brush. I focus the application more to the centre of my face excluding my nose as I do not put any dots on my nose. I use whatever is remaining on the brush to my nose. I find that putting foundation on my nose exaggerates my enlarged pores.

The foundation is super easy to blend and looks pretty amazing. It does look like skin but even toned. It doesn’t go into my fine lines, but it does crease under my eye area. I don’t need to set it, but I like it because it helps to prolong the wear. As a luminous foundation, it doesn’t seem to last long on my face.

By around the 1 hour mark, I actually already see some of the foundation sitting in my pores on my nose, but everywhere else is still quite perfect. By about 5th hour, my skin still looks really good, not much bunching of the foundation, or dry patches, no dryness can be felt. It almost looks freshly applied. My skin shows through but still looking nice.

Overall

I’m updating on my 3rd use here and I quite like it. I think I will reach for this quite a lot because of its natural luminous finish that doesn’t make me look greasy and that it is super lightweight. The shade match is pretty good and it is easy to blend. I probably won’t use it for medium to full coverage because I don’t like layering my foundation, I would rather go for a better coverage product instead.

Let’s see how I go after a week’s use…

I love it so far. It’s working great on my skin during the summer time. I want some coverage but also my skin to show through. I got any a natural finish that is not too dewy or too matte. It feels lightweight and doesn’t bunch up on my pores. The one thing I don’t like about this is the smell, I don’t know what it smells like, but it is not a pleasant smell. Other than that, I have been using this all week and my skin does not have any reactions or congestion or breakouts whatsoever.
