elf cosmetics Poreless Putty Primer

Where I got it

I have seen this product at the start of this year (maybe?) from YouTube Beauty Gurus claiming that this is a dupe for the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer ($89 for 20g), but since we do not have a retailer that stocks all of elf products, it has been really hard to find it. I have tried going on to ebay.com, but they are wa overpriced and I have since forgotten about it. Until I came across it by chance at my local Kmart and it was the very last one on the shelf as well! I picked it up at $17, woohoo! It is now avaliable online too – link here.

How I find it

Let us take a look at how it compares with the Tatcha first. They have pretty much the same amount of product (elf has 21g, Tatcha has 20g), but Tatcha wins at packaging of course. Other than that, the product inside looks exactly the same.

With these type of a consistency, it is best to scrape the product off with a spatula or something similar to that disc you get from Tatcha. You probably can’t get anything out with fingertips because it is harder than actual putty, and you will probably get too much product. I’ve seen people use fingernails but that’s not what I would do.

The putty has a bit of a thick texture so you need to use the warmth of your fingers to melt it down a little, then pat onto your skin. I use small patting and smoothing motions, but not rubbing. It feels really silky on the skin and doesn’t pill up. Foundation goes on top without any patchiness and weird spots or blotches.

Overall

Overall, I don’t really detect any difference between the two except for the fragrance. The Tatcha one may be a little bit more smoother, but on the skin, there is basically no difference. There is no difference on how my makeup stays on my face or how it blurs my pores. They both made my eyeshadow more vibrant and adhere better so I’m actually very glad that I’ve found the elf one. I wil definitely keep using them both and will definitely repurchase the elf one!
