Guerlain L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation

Where I got it

I got this from Smith & Caughey for $102. Only 8 shades were available from Smith & Caughey. This is my first ever makeup product from Guerlain as I have never been really excited about the brand.

What I got

This is the Guerlain L’Essentiel Natural Glow Foundation SPF20 in 03 Naturel (30ml). A foundation made with 97% naturally-derived ingredients* with a natural glow finish that lasts for 16 hours**. The complexion is perfect, luminous and fresh. The comfortable texture becomes one with the skin, making it ideal for buildable coverage (light to medium). With L’Essentiel, bare skin is more beautiful, day after day. The formula lets the skin breathe; hydrates, balances and protects the skin from pollution. The complexion is more even; the appearance of imperfections is reduced. A unique and disruptive bottle by the designer Mathieu Lehanneur, inspired by the subtle art of balance.

How I find it

This is a natural finish, dewy finish foundation with the majority of its ingredients are naturally-derived. I’m not entirely sure what that means because I have been reading up articles about green-washing where brands incorrectly use or excessively use the word “natural”. Usually naturally-derived doesn’t really mean that the ingredients are “natural”, or non-chemicals. There are chemicals that are made from natural ingredients anyway!

The glass container has a golden cap which you simply pull out and there is a pump for the foundation. I use 1-2 pumps for the entire face and parts of the neck and I like to use a dense kabuki brush to apply.

Overall

I have been enjoying this foundation when I’m going for a natural look with sheer to medium coverage. It’s got that natural glowy finish that doesn’t feel greasy at all. It’s nice, but I do see some creasing around the sides of my mouth during the day and a bit of separation around the chin and cheek area.

I would say this foundation suits someone with normal skin and if you already have good skin to begin with. It doesn’t do very well on really oily or really dry skin or textured skin. I will continue to use it, but I will definitely prep my skin well beforehand with a hydrating mask and a good moisturiser as well.
