Hourglass Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss

Where I got it

I first saw this when I was at the Meccaland Afterparty a few weeks back and I thought it looked really pretty, but at $47, I felt it was a little expensive. After about 2 weeks, I visited Mecca Maxima in Botany and I was trying out some lip glosses from Too Faced. I wanted to grab one of their latest collection but they didn’t have any in stock so at the end I chose this one from Hourglass.

What I got

This is the Hourglass Unreal High Shine Volumizing Lip Gloss in Mecca Glow. A lip plumping lip gloss that provides a slick sheen of colour whilst hydrating and smoothing. Powerful active ingredients such as hyaluronic acid, shea butter and avocado oil in this formula provide instant hydration, providing long-wearing, non-sticky, silky and cushiony coverage all day long. Volulip™ amplifies the lips natural shape, plumping without the sting of more traditional lip plumpers. Available in 18 shades in a range of extraordinary finishes: sheer shimmer, opaque shine and soft pearl.

How I find it

The range of colours for this lipgloss is absolutely beautiful! Their shimmery shades are so beautiful, but I am just a little intimidated with the glossy opaque shades because they tend to be high maintenance and I don’t think I can use those shade around my kids. I decided to go for this limited edition shade that Hourglass has created specifically for Mecca for Meccaland, so you can only get this from Mecca for a limited time. This shade has a gorgeous coral base shade and gold shimmers mixed it.

The tube is in glass and the Hourglass signature metallic look lid in gold. The tube has a slight taper at the end which adds to its elegance and sleek look. The applicator is a doe-foot that has a bit of a wider flat foot. It holds the product well and does not deposit too much at once.

The formula of the lip gloss is a little on the thicker side with a mint feeling (hence the volumizing I guess). The sheer coral shade looks great on my lips and it actually looks really natural on me. The fine gold glitter doesn’t give that gritty feeling so I can’t really feel it on my lips, but you can definitely see it in the photo below and on my lips when the sun hits it.

Overall

This lip gloss looks and feels beautiful! It enhances my natural lip colour and adds amazing shine without feeling gloopy and sticky. This is my first ever Hourglass lip product and I’m very impressed. The shade I have chosen is not an opaque shade so if you think its too sheer and not showing up, maybe try out one of their opaque shades like Icon (a blue red) or Prose (warm pink). They do have a lip topper shade (Halo) if you want to jazz up any existing lipstick or lip colour you want – which is a clear gloss with gold shimmers (looks amaaaaazing!!)
