Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer

Where I got it: It has been a little while before I first saw this product being used by YouTube beauty gurus and they are loving it. I was going to visit the Mecca shop at Takapuna but it was a nightmare to find parking on the streets so I got mine from Mecca Cosmetica website which is way better because I get free shipping as well as 3 free samples as well! This set me back a good $83 for a 20g primer!! Yikes, the most expensive primer I’ve paid for.

What I got: This is the Tatcha Silk Canvas Primer. Velvety priming balm of pressed silk smooths and makes makeup last longer while keeping it out of skin, helping to prevent clogged pores and breakouts.

This multi-tasking skin-protecting, makeup-perfecting primer for face, eyes and lips.

  • Blurs: Silk extracts feel nourishing on skin and instantly diminish the look of pores, fines lines and imperfections for the perfect canvas before makeup.
  • Primes: Silk powder makes makeup glide on more evenly and last longer, minimizing excess shine with a soft focus finish.
  • Protects: Protective barrier derived from botanicals acts as a barrier between makeup and skin, helping to prevent clogged pores that can lead to breakouts. Anti-pollution natural active ingredients fight immediate attack from environmental stressors and help support the skin’s barrier function to act against future attack, visibly reducing the appearance of wrinkles and dullness.
  • Enhances: Pink and gold pearl helps even skin tone for a healthy look.
  • Anti-aging: Hadasei-3™, a trinity of Japanese superfoods, green tea, rice and algae, visibly restores youthful radiance.

How I find it: First of all, really beautiful packaging from the box to the actual tub. There is a pull out “tray” inside the box and the actual product is sealed in a foiled packet. It also comes with a small piece of paper with information and instructions. The small disc that comes with it is plastic that looks like metal. You are supposed to gently scrap the product that is pretty much like a balm until it reaches the line. Of course, you use the smaller side of the line because you don’t need much. I often find it needed less than where it reaches the line.

You are supposed to warm it up between fingertips and then pat it on around the face. For hygiene reasons, I would never dip my fingers into the product and would clean the little disc every single time.

The amount below is usually how much product I need for the entire face. The balm feels really smooth and easy to spread out on my fingertips and applies on the skin effortlessly. I always apply a makeup primer after sunscreen and I wait at least a good 1-2 minutes before I use a primer because my sunscreen needs a bit of time to absorb.

Overall: I am so glad I got this primer because it is really really good. I have combination skin that is prone to breakouts and blocked pores. This primer has a really beautiful texture that is not too slippery or silicone-y. I find that most primers are either too slippery that feels oily or silicone-like which just moves around the surface of your skin and potentially pill up when you apply foundation. This primer does nothing like that and gives my skin that flawless, primed surface. Totally in love with this primer and I would sometimes use this on its own because it blurs my pores with a natural finish (not super matte). Definitely recommend it and would repurchase.
