Where I got it: I got these from a Facebook group auction for $16. Pixi is not available in stores in New Zealand, but you can get some of their products from ASOS or Sephora.nz.

What I got: These are the new  MatteLast Liquid Lip by Pixi by Petra. There are 6 shades in total. Full-on colour and all day wear while hydrating! MatteLast Liquid Lip is a matte finish liquid lipstick that’s infused with nourishing Rosehip Oil for long-lasting comfort and hydration. he specially designed ‘Pixi Petal’ applicator gives you precise application every time. This creamy liquid lipstick goes on quickly and easily, giving you fabulously smooth and even colour in just one stroke. It quickly sets to a smudge-proof, food-proof, kiss-proof finish.

How I find it: From their website, all the shades are really pretty and are mainly pinky and neutral shades which are all quite flattering. When I got my hands on the products, Evening Rose and Really Rose look almost identical. The tube is clear with the signature pale green lid that Pixi products do. I really do love the applicator as it has a nice tip and a wider base, it is also slightly curved to fit the shape of your lips and super flexible.

First of all, to use a liquid lipstick that is matte, you need to make sure you don’t have dry, flaky, peeling skin by using a lip scrub. If that doesn’t get rid of it, I suggest you don’t use the liquid lipstick and fix up your lips first by keeping yourself hydrated, apply suitable lip balm, etc. If there are other causes of your dry, peeling lips, address them properly, otherwise, if you try to use any matte liquid lip, it won’t look nice and your lips will feel super dry.

Then I like to fill out the centre of my lips with the curved bit of the applicator and then use the tip to line the corners and along the lower edges. Then I use the remaining product on the applicator to line the cupid’s bow of my upper lip in a cross shape. Then I dip the wand back in and fill out the rest of my upper lip.

About the shades I have tried, Really Rose is a deep rosy-pink nude. Evening Rose is a pinky brown-mauve (a deeper version of Really Rose IMO). Au Naturelle is a muted coral/peach shade. I have light-medium skin with yellow undertones, and my lips are naturally pigmented to a mauve-tone shade. Therefore all these shades work quite well for me. However with Au Naturelle, if I re-apply on top of existing colour, it gets too light on me and makes me look really washed out.

Overall: Absolutely love the formula of these liquid lipsticks, they glide on easily, they are pigmented, they do not bleed, they are not streaky, I don’t need to use a lip liner and it feels thin and light on my lips. The formula lightly hydrates my lips while the colour stays on well. The applicator is by far the most comfortable and easy to use from all the liquid lipstick I have tried. However, it does come off when you drink and eat and if you want to reapply, it is best to remove it entirely, then reapply.
