Estée Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm

Where I got it: I bought this a little while ago at my local Life Pharmacy. It was RRP$90.00 with a 15% discount and gift with purchase. I usually get my Estée Lauder from either Farmers or Life Pharmacy wherever has a gift with purchase or double points, etc.

What I got: This is a tub of the Estée Lauder Advanced Night Micro Cleansing Balm. This lightweight balm melts into a silky cleansing oil as you massage over skin, then transforms with water into a milky emulsion that rinses easily for a clean, conditioned feel. Removes makeup and impurities, including pollution, as it purifies deep within skin’s surface to improve your overall healthy look.

How I find it: The thing I love about cleansing balms are that they are easy to handle. They don’t run in your palms or leak through between your fingers. However, to pick up cleansing balms, I will always use a spatula because that way it doesn’t get into my nails and doesn’t contaminate my tub. I use a good dime size amount if I am wearing foundation (smaller amount if I don’t have any base makeup, just blush and brows, etc.). I massage the balm onto my dry skin, directly over my makeup including my eye makeup. Massage for at least a minute to get all the makeup to lift. This cleansing balm feels rather gel-like, it melts down into an oil-like consistency but still a little thick, not too runny and that is quite interesting. Then I use a little bit of water to emulsify the balm and it turns milky. Then just rinse off and I use a proper cleanser for a double cleanse. My skin feels clean and comfortable but not squeaky clean.

Overall: I love cleansing oils and balms because I love double cleansing and these balms and oils are super convenient and effective. Obviously, a balm is easier to take travelling so you don’t have to worry about spilling. Cleansing balms do not “melt” when the room temperature is hot (well, at least not in Auckland unless you put it in the sun), but it melts when you rub it into your skin. I have used the Clinique Take The Day Off Cleansing Balm and they are the same in how they work, but the texture is a little different. The Clinique one feels a little waxy and harder compared to the Estee Lauder one. The EL one is a little more smooth and almost gel-like. They both melt makeup amazingly and removes all traces of makeup effortlessly (even my waterproof mascara and eyeliner).  The EL is a bit more expensive than Clinique though and I would probably go for Clinique if I were to repurchase.
