Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Trio Xmas gift set

Where I got it: I was shopping around my local Life Pharmacy for some Christmas gifts and I came across a very helpful Dermalogica staff. Not only was she telling me about Dermalogica products, she was also telling me about other brands that I may be interested in. I like her sales pitch. So Dermalogica has a few value packs for Christmas and this pack is NZD $88. They also have a really good Daily Mircofoliant and Precleanse pack that is only $99 – you basically get the Preclease for free!

Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Trio Xmas gift set

What I got: This is the Dermalogica Power Rescue Masque Trio Xmas gift set. It contains 3 masks, each of them 38ml tubes. Skin Hydrating Masque, Charcoal Rescue Masque and the Multivitamin Recovery Masque. This is a great set if you want to try different masks from Dermalogica but don’t want to splurge to get all 3 in full size or if you can’t finish a full-size 75ml tube of mask.

How I find it:

Multivitamin Power Recovery Masque (38ml, $92 for 75ml). Ultra-replenishing masque helps rescue stressed, ageing skin. This revitalising masque contains powerful, concentrated vitamins A, C, E and F to help skin recover from the damage that leads to skin ageing, while Vitamin A helps increase elasticity and moisture content, making it the ultimate remedy for dulling, dry, dehydrate, lacklustre, photo-damaged skin.

This yellow coloured mask has a really comfortable cream consistency that glides onto the skin smoothly. I like to apply this all over the face when I need a good pick me up or when my skin looks dull and stressed. This would be a great mask to bring with you to travel as it will help your skin to recover from dryness, dehydration and excess sun-exposure. I would use this once a week and this can also be used as an overnight mask. Just apply a thin layer and go to bed, rinse off in the morning. This mask doesn’t really dry out on the skin so after 10-15 minutes you just wash it off with your fingertips and/or a washcloth. It doesn’t irritate my skin at all and does not cause any redness.

Skin Hydrating Masque (38ml, $75 for 75ml). A refreshing, moisturising masque to remedy dry, stressed skin. Help stimulate skin’s Natural Moisturising Factor while lycopene-rich Tomato Seed lipids help restore skin’s protective barrier, enhancing moisture levels for healthier, smoother skin.

I have used this mask before and I love it. I usually use it after a cleansing mask like a clay or charcoal mask that is supposed to draw out impurities, then I add moisture and hydration back to my skin. You can also apply this to only where your skin needs it and I usually need it most on my cheeks and my forehead. I was also told that you can use this as a sleeping mask, just a very thin layer and make sure you wash it off in the morning. The slightly yellow-tinted cream-gel formula is really soothing and refreshing on the skin (great for summer). It provides a nice barrier to the skin and makes sure skin can drink up the moisture without the mask drying up from the atmosphere. It needs a little help with rinsing off if you apply a nice generous layer. But nothing a bit of help with a washcloth cannot remove. It doesn’t leave a slimy or slippery residue on the face which is great, but it makes my skin feel soft and supple.

Right: Skin Hydrating Masque

Charcoal Rescue Masque (38ml. $89 for 75ml). Fast-acting, easy-to-remove masque rescues tired, lacklustre or dull skin. Activated Binchotan Charcoal powerfully absorbs impurities while Sulfur promotes cell turnover for dramatically brighter skin.

This charcoal mask is a not as gritty as I expected it to be. It is a gentle physical exfoliant that makes your skin feels smooth and clean after washing off. I tried this for the first time only on my nose and just the immediate cheek area next to my nose. It applies smoothly and dries down within about 5 minutes. Once dried, the mask is slightly taut and when ready to wash off, I wet the mask and my fingers and gently massage the area for exfoliation as it washes off. Skin is left feeling clean and smooth with no redness.

Overall: I love all of these masks. Since different areas of the face have different concerns, I like to apply a different mask to each area of my face and this is called Multi-masking. I like to use there Charcoal mask on my nose and just a bit on the sides of my nose where I am quite oily, the Hydrating mask on my forehead where it can be a little dry and the Recovery mask on my cheeks and jawline where it needs a bit of lustre boost. They time each mask needs to stay on are quite similar (10mins). Then I just wash off the charcoal first and the rest of the face afterwards. Smaller packaging is really ideal when you don’t want to commit to a full-size mask (a 75ml tube can take a while to finish especially if you have other masks that you are already using), or that you want to try them out first (these are not exactly cheap masks) or that you want to take them travelling. You can even bring the hydrating mask on the plane and keep your skin hydrated and moisturised during a long-haul flight.
