Mama Massage at East Day Spa

Last month, I was gifted a spa voucher at East Day Spa from Maxted Thomas PR (thank you ladies!) The voucher was for a 30 minute Vady Kasty massage, but being 34 weeks pregnant, I surely cannot simply lie down on my belly for a back massage, so I asked if I could change the massage to something for suitable for pregnant women. The ladies at East Day Spa were very nice and they suggested the Mama massage which is offered pre or post natal, this full body massage alleviates the common leg, hip and lower back pressures of pregnancy. It improves circulation and body awareness and is only suitable for women after their first trimester.

So I got the massage booked on the day before my birthday to pamper myself. Their Auckland spa offers an urban escape in the heart of Auckland City. Conveniently located on  the ground floor of the five-star SKYCITY Grand Hotel, East Day Spa Auckland has ten individual treatment rooms, a roomy relaxation area with individual pods,  a steam room and group manicure and pedicure rooms. They are open Monday – Friday 9am – 9pm, Saturday and Sunday 9am – 8pm so you can certainly book yourself in after a long day’s work and relax for a facial or massage. They also offer $10 valet parking for the entire day at the Grand Hotel.

Once I’m there, I registered myself at the reception counter and they asked me to take a seat and fill in a new customer form and offered me tea or water. The roomy relaxation area had small little pods and the decorations and scent of the room is very oriental. After filling in the form, I had a quick consultation and I was ensured that they will be using rice bran oil for my massage instead of essential oils (when you are pregnant, there are many essential oils that will affect the baby). I have also requested for light pressure massage because my body is quite sensitive to pressure.

Once my therapist was ready, I was escorted to a cozy individual room by a very polite Southeast Asian lady. She made sure I was comfortable and warm before beginning with the massage.  I had to lie on my side for the massage, 15 minutes each side. The 30 minute massage was really relaxing and she focused on my lower back where most of my pain was, it finished off with a hot towel to wipe down the oil which was the perfect finish for the massage! I had a cup of hot tea afterwards and stayed a little bit for a bit of a wander through the shopping area. They stock Clarisonic, Ren, Smashbox and a number of different brands. I left feeling refreshed but it would’ve been nicer if it was a full hour!

So, the overall verdict of the East Day Spa is great service and great massage. The pace was not too fast and not too slow. The decoration and lighting was just perfect for relaxation. I would love to come back again for a full hour massage or a facial – I think that would be great.
