pdc Pmel Essence Mascara Base

Where I got it: I got this from ebay.com about 2 weeks ago after watching one of Sarah Cheung’s YouTube videos on her lash routine for straight Asian lashes. She’s not a professional makeup artist but I just love to watch a Hong Kong YouTuber once in a while who speaks good English (lol).  I got this for NZS$36.96 including shipping from Japan.

What I got: This is the Essence Mascara Base by pdc PmelThis clear mascara base keeps your lashes curly all day long while being strongly resistant to sweat, water, and oil. Free from artificial fragrances, mineral oils, alcohols, and colorings, the base is infused with amino acids, hyaluronic acid, jojoba oil and hydrolyzed protein to nourish lashes. It melts at 40 degrees Celsius, making it easy to wash away with hot water.

How I find it: From Sarah’s video, she said that this is a mascara base, like a primer that holds curls and then you can apply your own mascara on top. This mascara base does not add volume or lengthen but can be removed with water. The packaging is in Japanese and is made in Japan. I can only understand a little bit of Japanese, so all that I can make out from the packaging is that it curls and holds the lashes curled, it helps lashes fan out and is removable with water.

The wand is straight and small in size. The formula is like a clear gel. It brushes on effortlessly and coats each lash cleanly and they don’t stick to each other. I curl my lashes and use one light coat, allow it to dry before I use my mascara. The formula does dry down quickly and leaves the lashes a bit stiff, so you might want to try and apply mascara before it fully dry and hardens.

Overall: After using this a few times with my trusty Majolica Majorca mascaras, I am really impressed that it held my curls. However, since I could easily achieve all-day curls with my Majolica Majorca mascaras anyway, I thought I would give this a go with other mascaras that tends to weigh my lashes down no matter how much I curled my lashes beforehand.

To my surprise, it did work wonderfully! However, there were 1 or 2 mascaras that didn’t really work very well and it did droop and run on me. But overall I am very pleased with the results because that means I could use the mascaras that did not work for me before! I will repurchase this in the future and most likely recommend it as well.
