L’Oréal mascaras comparison – Volume Million Lashes, Butterfly Wings and False Lash Telescopic

This post is dedicated to a comparison between 3 L’Oreal mascaras that I am very much in love with.

To start with, I have really sparse, short and thin lashes and I also have oily eyelids that melts non-waterproof mascaras. After a number of mascara failures – from spidery lashes to melting down to my under eye area, I have decided I cannot use any normal mascaras on my lashes.

I have tried a number of different mascaras but ended up in disappointments. Until I stumbled upon the Blinc Mascara (tubes my lashes but does not give volume or hold), L’Oreal Beauty Tubes Lash Extension Mascara (tubes my lashes and gives volume) and the Dejavu Fibrewig (tubes my lashes, gives length).

About a year ago, I was sent the L’Oreal False Lash Telescopic Mascara and I totally fell in love with it! It is waterproof (even though it does not remove with warm water), holds my curl perfectly and provides great volume and length! My holy grail mascara!  Since then I was interested in the mascaras that L’Oreal has to  offer.

Recently Farmers had a buy 2 get 3rd free offer so I picked up the L’Oreal Volume Million Lashes Mascara and the L’Oreal False Lash Butterfly Wings Mascara (Got the Eau de Teint foundation as the free product). Let’s have a look at the effects of the mascaras on my lashes!

Volume Million Lashes Mascara Waterproof – Read my full review here.

Volume: 5/5

Length: 4/5

Hold: 5/5

Waterproof: 4.5/5

Overall: 4/5  This provides good volume and separation because the formula is not too wet, but can get a little clumpy when you apply more than 2 coats. The lashes are soft and very easy to remove with cleansing oil.

False Lash Butterfly Wings Mascara – Read my full review here.

Volume: 4/5

Length: 5/5

Hold: 5/5

Waterproof: 4.5/5

Overall: 4.5/5  Asymmetric brush head to concentrate on the outer lashes. The formula is not too thick, but it is on the wet side so 3 coats will still be fine, but separation is a little difficult as lashes tends to stick together. Lashes are soft and removal is easy with cleansing oil.

False Lash Telescopic Mascara – Read my full review here.

Volume: 4/5

Length: 5/5

Hold: 5/5

Waterproof: 5/5

Overall: 4.5/5  This particular brush head allows my lashes to be coated with the formula, then the brushes separates the lashes. This mascara gives good length and separation. The brush head is easy to control and not too big. Lashes are soft and removal is also easy with cleansing oil.

From top to bottom: Telescopic, Butterfly wings, Volume Millions

Overall: I think all 3 of the mascaras are great. They all provide superior hold and waterproof effect. My favourite will be the False Lash Telescopic mascara because I love the brush – it is not too big and easy to control. For volume, I would go for Volume Million Lashes mascara. The Butterfly Wings would be the least special mascara out of the 3.

Let me know if you have tried any of these mascaras and what your thoughts are. Otherwise if you have any mascaras to recommend, please comment!

I REALLY appreciate your review of these mascaras! However, I need to point out that your oily skin melting non-waterproof mascaras doesn’t make scientific sense. I’m not saying your experience is different than you think it is, obviously, YOU know what works for you. It’s about the “why.”
I’m commenting because my oily skin means I CAN’T use waterproof mascaras, because the oil in my skin melts the oil-based waterproof mascaras. It doesn’t melt the water-based, non-water-proof mascara. Unless I sweat.
My understanding (from the east coast of the US) is that New Zealand has a wet climate, unsure if like rainy Seattle or Hilo, Hawaii, or more like Maui with LOTS of rain but also lots of sun, resulting in a humid, subtropical climate. When the air is humid, it takes longer for any body sweat to evaporate, so even a little bit can hang around awhile. I wonder if it is the water in your air which is actually melting your non-waterproof mascara.
I’m only mentioning it so that if relevant you can use it to make other makeup and skin care decisions/guesses more accurately. I suppose it IS possible that there would be some tougher or more resilient waterproof mascaras that would be less likely to melt just from oily skin than others (can’t think of any by name, but you never know). Since I’m in a different country, it’s possible our makeup is different with different ingredients due to differing government approvals, even with the same name.
Again, thank you for the very thorough and helpful review!
