Where I got it

I was sent these lovely products as PR gifts from Shiseido NZ (Thank you so much!). I am already a big fan of Shiseido products and would almost always purchase from them when they do gift with purchases because they are very good in value. The Vital Perfection White Revitalizing range has either been reformulated and repackaged, or they are just repackaged for different areas of the world (sometimes Europe, Australasia, and Asia would have different collections as well as different packaging and formulations). Vital Perfection is also a collection that is formulated for more mature skin and these are the only two products in the White Revitalizing sub-collection, the rest are just called Vital Perfection.

What I got

These are the Shiseido Vital Perfection White Revitalizing Softener enriched (150ml) and Emulsion enriched (100ml).

White Revitalizing Softener enriched (RRP$105) Target the 8 aging signs with SHISEIDO’s original Aqua-in-pool and VP8. Vital-Perfection brings you a breakthrough in skincare technology, combining the natural powers of botanical roots, leaves and flowers with Shiseido’s advanced skin science. With this potent fusion of elements, your ideal skin is revealed: full vibrant, and resilient, with an even, youthfully bright tone.

White Revitalizing Softener enriched

White Revitalizing Emulsion enriched (RRP$ 135). A moisturizing emulsion that activates functions in the skin to improve various signs of aging. A breakthrough in skincare technology, this treatment fuses the natural powers of botanicals with state-of-the-art science. Made with the revolutionary Shiseido VP8 complex, this anti-aging solution increases elasticity to revitalize skin that has become thin with age.

How I find it

I am no stranger to Shiseido’s softeners and it is actually quite a common product in Japanese skincare. The White Revitalizing Softener Enriched is a similar product to an essence or a hydrating toner as the first step of skincare after cleansing. You pour this onto cotton pads and then apply to the skin in sweeping motions. This is not to cleanse the skin, but more to hydrate the skin and prepare the skin for subsequent skincare products.

As you can see, this is a very liquid product with a bit of thickness so it runs, but it also provides lasting hydration on the skin. Then you can apply your serums or essences on top of this.

The softener is a sort of hydrating toner step, leaning on an essence product. It is lightweight and water-like. You can apply this with a cotton pad with swiping motions, or you can apply this with your palms for additional hydration on the skin. This absorbs nicely on the skin but does not dry up quickly. After this softener, I like to apply serums like the Ultimune Concentrate or my other serums. Then I move on to a moisturiser, like the emulsion.

The White Revitalizing Emulsion Enriched is a lightweight lotion moisturiser. It is hydrating and moisturising, but it does sit on my skin for a little bit before sinking fully into my skin. I would say that this emulsion would be great if you have dry skin. If your skin is really dry, you could always layer this. It does have pleasant scent, but not an intrusive scent. The emulsion also leaves a nice dewy look on the skin which is probably what I would prefer for nightime instead of daytime.

Overall

Overall, I am very happy to have tried these two products in this line. Personally, these two products would have been the two items that I would purchase if I decided to start trying out the line. I love a softener because it is generally easy to incorporate into an existing skincare routine and it is also something that most skin types can use without any issues. In this case, this softener was not disappointing. It was lightweight and hydrating, but that’s basically it. It plumps up the skin, but a lot of other products could do that as well. Next, the emulsion is very moisturising. I would say I would see that the emulsion would be great for drier skin types because it is quite rich, but not thick and greasy. I wouldn’t say I saw significant “whitening” benefits, but I did see brightening and revitalised skin because the skin was hydrated and moisturised. Skin looks plump and healthy.

During warmer months, I would team the softener with a lighter-weight moisturiser and then a sunscreen, and I would use the emulsion at night. I would say this range is great for ages over 30 and if you have anything close to dry skin. I have combination skin, but also dry areas like my cheeks, especially during colder months. If you have oily skin or younger skin, I would go for the Essential Energy or White Lucent range from Shiseido instead of this range.
