Dior New Look Collection and Privee Collection perfume haul

Where I got it

Shortly after I discovered that Dior.co.nz has already loaded up the Limited Edition New Look Houndstooth collection online, I texted my Dior beauty SA and asked if they had the collection in stores yet. I also asked her if it was only the La Collection Privee (LCP) that had a price increase. She has confirmed that the price increase has only been applied to the LCP, but not their other perfume, skincare or makeup. I was actually planning to get the Jasmin Des Anges perfume, but when it had a price increase of $20 for the 40ml bottle, and another $20 extra for the limited edition, I hesitated. After a bit of contemplation and speculation that prices are just going to increase again in the future, I don’t think I will get any other perfume from the La Collection Privee in the near future.

In that case, I decided to go for it. So I ordered the 40ml Jasmin De Anges perfume in the Houndstooth engraved bottle ($220) and also ordered the limited edition New Look Cushion Foundation compact ($123) and lipstick ($80) from the collection as well. The total came to $423 and they offered free shipping. First of all, it was my first time getting the cushion foundation in the limited edition packaging and I knew this is a collector’s item. I also got the lipstick as a collector’s item purely for its packaging. I feel like it is worth the money because all of Dior’s lipsticks are not refillable, so I can exchange them for another lipstick colour in this limited edition packaging and I never have to throw out an empty lipstick case!

So, as usual, I ordered over messaging my SA Tracey. Sometimes I make a call, but she is also OK with texting. They accept online banking as payment and when the payment goes through, the parcel is sent and I received it the next day! This order came in the black and white Maison box with the houndstooth design. Wrapped with a string and a red wax-seal sticker. Watch my unboxing video on Instagram if you are interested. Inside the box has my receipt, a little white drawstring bag where Tracey has given me 7ml sample bottles of Eden Roc as well as Jasmin Des Anges. I have only been getting the smaller 1ml samples before, this is my first time getting the larger bottles and they also come with their little tube packaging (how cute). Then she placed all my items in a larger drawstring bag in a houndstooth design. She also gave me a couple of skincare samples as well as a sample of their new Forever Foundation in shade 2N (my shade). At the very end, I found a little Dior pillow-like thing at the bottom of the box. It’s possibly filled with polystyrene beads and not really puffy. Its sole purpose was to provide cushioning as there is no tissue paper inside this box. Alright, let’s get into the products!

What I got

So I ordered a 40ml bottle of the Jasmin Des Anges from their La Collection Privee in the limited edition New Look Collection, a Forever Couture Perfect Cushion foundation also in the limited edition New Look compact in shade 2N Glow, and lastly a Rouge Dior lipstick also in the New Look packaging in shade 728 Nu Rose (satin finish).

Jasmin Des Anges EDP. Dior.co.nz: “For the new limited-edition New Look collection, the houndstooth pattern brings its timeless couture elegance to Jasmin des Anges, one of the iconic fragrances from La Collection Privée Christian Dior. Adorned with this contrasting pattern, the fragrance bottle and case become a genuine couture manifesto. “I particularly enjoy visiting the Grasse flower fields in early autumn, when the air is filled with the flowers’ fruity scent. This is when the last jasmine flowers are harvested and they provide a delectable perfume similar to a floral liqueur. Composed as a tribute to late summer, Jasmin des Anges is a floral-fruity invitation with aromas of almost-candied apricots.” – François Demachy, Parfumeur-Créateur Dior. An olfactory image of a stroll through fields of Jasmine, a fragrant interpretation of the colours of this delicate flower, a complex harmony with floral and fruity notes.”

How I find it

I have loved the Jasmin Des Anges scent ever since the first time I visited the Dior beauty boutique at Commercial Bay. I bought the hand and body liquid soap and the SA gave me a sample of the perfume. I used it a couple of times and I eventually knew that I had to get it. When Dior launched the New Look collection and this scent was part of the collection, I was really happy. However, they also increased the prices and the limited edition bottle also cost a little extra from the usual packaging (a total $40 extra). Even the paper tube packaging holding the perfume has a houndstooth pattern. I have been getting the 40ml bottle instead of the 125ml bottle which is $450 because I do not wear perfume on a daily basis and I wear maybe 1-2 spritz each time so it will take me years to finish even a 40ml bottle. I absolutely adore this perfume as it truly smells like Jasmine. It is floral with a hint of fruity sweetness. Absolutely gorgeous if you love the smell of jasmine flowers.

Let’s move on to the Forever Couture Perfect Cushion Foundation. I picked up shade 2N which is my usual shade from Dior. I will do a shade comparison with other Dior foundations in the pictures below and also on my Instagram. I decided to go for the glow version instead of the matte version. The shade range for the cushion is really bad – shades 00, 0, 1 and 2 available for both matte and glow finishes. On the Dior website, they mentioned that this collection is developed to match Asian skin tones, so I guess that’s why.

To be absolutely honest, I do not plan to use the cushion foundation and I want to keep it in pristine condition. But I also want to see if I am able to pop the compact out and just use the compact and not make the case dirty. I did pick up the glow version of the foundation instead of the matte formula because I like how I am able to powder over where I need less glow.

Lastly, the Rouge Dior Lip balm in 728 Nu Rose (satin finish). This is easily mistaken for the Rouge Dior lipstick which is an entirely different product with different coverage and pigmentation. The lip balm is hydrating with a sheer wash of colour and the lipstick is creamy and pigmented. Even the box of the lipstick has the new look houndstooth design at the top, but generally, the box is still in that signature deep blue colour. Now, the lipstick packaging is simply gorgeous! The houndstooth design has texture and a matte finish. At the base part of the lipstick, we have the matte black cannage texture and CD in silver. The bullet inside is embossed as well with the word Dior. Shade Nu Rose is a lip balm and that is the only colour in this collection that is a lip balm instead of a lipstick. Initially, I wanted to get shade 312 Incandescent which is a brownish red lipstick with a satin finish, but they are not available in New Zealand (sold out on Dior.co.nz). So I decided the next colour I would go for is this shade which is a subtle rosewood colour lip balm with a satin finish. Other colours like 999, 720 Icone, 772 Classic, and 100 Nude Look are shades I already have.

Overall

Overall I am really happy with all the products I ordered. A little gutted that they have increased the prices for the LCP products, but I am also quite glad that I have not discovered another perfume I want from Dior yet! The beautifully engraved bottle of the perfume is so gorgeous and it’s just a visual preference really. If you don’t want to spend an extra $20 on the limited edition bottle, you don’t have to. The perfume itself is beautiful and so feminine, it is not intruding on others and is not overwhelming as well. As for the makeup, I am so glad that I ordered these limited edition items, they are more beautiful in real life than they are in photos on the internet. The texture and the finish are really high quality and special. Not just a change in colour, or change in embossing, but the actual packaging has a beautiful design to it. I also love how they are interchangeable which means you only need one of these tubes and you can bring different colours with you. I highly recommend getting the lipstick because for $80 you get to have a piece of the limited edition print that will be easily recognised when you take it out and you can replace it with another Dior lipstick refill of your choice.
