Where I got it

Initially I saw these new launches on YT, from the US influencers I follow and some IG accounts as well. They were just launched early March and by mid March, we have it here in New Zealand as well. They actually came in on 12/3, just 2 days before I purchased this. It wasn’t really launched as a collection, but a selection of products including the Forever Natural Nude Foundation, Forever Cushion Powder and this Skin Veil which is a primer product. The lady at Dior also told me they launched a new Forever Setting Spray as well, which is the first time I knew about or saw.

Anyway, I picked up the Skin Veil for $92 along with a Lip Tattoo in shade 451. I went into a draw for a prize pack worth over $400. The lady also gave me a foundation sample of the Forever Natural Nude in shade 2,5N (I have since purchased this foundation from Sephora.nz). So I will give that a go with this primer.

How I find it

After moisturising, I went straight into this Skin Veil. It was an overcast sky and I knew I was going to be indoors and out 2m from a tinted window in the office. The fact that this Skin Veil was only SPF20 was a little mmm.. lacking. I wouldn’t say I am disappointed as this product is not a sunscreen product and if it does get higher in SPF, it could make the shade very pale.

This is a universal shade, but it is obviously more suitable for fair to light to light medium skin tones because there is some kind of tone-up effect – a brightening effect on the skin. If you have deep or deep dark skin tones, this would not be suitable unless Dior creates deeper toned versions in the future. Anyway, the texture is really beautiful. It is very smoothing, but in an elegant way, not too slippery which a dimethicone primer could give you. It does not pill up or feel really thick on the skin. It’s silky smooth, but does not dry down with a powdery finish. It’s absolutely glorious on the skin.

It does hydrate my skin for makeup application, I noticed that it worked really well with the Forever Natural Nude foundation and made my skin look natural with a healthy glow. It also worked really well with my favourite Dior Backstage Body and Face Foundation, giving me a hydrated and corrected base, and doesn’t alter the finish of the foundation. However, I didn’t think it made my foundation budge-proof, but it certainly made it look more flawless for longer, and I haven’t been seeing foundation gathering up on the sides of my nose and into fine lines.

I also like to use this on it’s own, with a dusting of translucent setting powder. Most of the time I would use a bit of concealer as well, but in the photo before, I have not used any concealer, just the Skin Veil and Dior Backstage Powder-no-powder setting powder on top. The powder gives a light sheen to the skin so it looks a little luminous. Obviosuly, very little coverage

Wearing Dior Skin Veil and translucent powder only – no concealer or foundation

Overall

I did a demo of this Skin Veil over on my IG (@kittiemui) reel if you want to see it in action, but let me give you an overview here. The primer has a really elegant texture and scent to it, I would expect nothing less from Dior and this price tag. It is slightly more expensive than the Dior Backstage Primer, but it does contain SPF and gives you a tone-up effect ever so slightly. All in all, they have completely different claims.

I would say that this primer is suitable for all skin types if you are going for a hydrated/moisturing base and a natural finish. The added SPF is quite nice, but if you are out and about, you will require higher SPF and this. If you have pretty good skin, you should be able to wear this on it’s own without a foundation because it gives minimal coverage, maybe only evening out skintone.

I have below a few images of the Dior counter at Farmers. Natalie Portman looks so beautiful in this campaign, I love her overall look in this photo.
