Shiseido Elixir Balancing Oshiroi Milk SPF50 PA++++

Where I got it

I got this from a FB group where we do “crowd-purchase” of products from mostly Asian countries. This particular product is direct from Japan and it was only $xx for both. I saw this product on YesStyle as well for approx $51 each.

How I find it

These are makeup primers with a good level of SPF and PA protection. They come in white (clear) and tinted (nude) and they come in a squeezy tube with a screw top lid. The texture is really light and lotion-like, it doesn’t feel silicone-like so instead of feeling slippery and ultra-smooth, it is more hydrating and moisturising on the skin. The white one turns clear when you rub the product in and it doesn’t leave a white cast. The tinted one is really sheer so I wouldn’t really say there is any tint in it and it also does not leave a white cast. If anything, it does give your skin a bit of glow.

The tube is so small and soft, it almost doesn’t feel like there is 35g of product in here at all (i highly doubt). Usually, I would use around half a teaspoon on sunscreen for my entire face, but if you use this as a primer (hydrating), you might use smaller amount and you will need to wear sunscreen underneath this because the smaller amount will not provide sufficient cover.

It has a nice fragrance that is noticeable but not too strong, and it dissipates gradually. It certainly smells like typical Japanese skincare products especially from Shiseido. It has that slight alcohol scent as well which is quite interesting because I often smell that in most Japanese skincare products a like essences, sunscreens, etc. Nonetheless, my skin has nothing against fragrances, so I am generally ok with this.

Overall

I really enjoy this sunscreen because it is so fluid and light. It does have a slight scent but it hardly has a pasty overcast on the skin and I do use a good amount all over my face. It leaves my face looking natural, feeling moisturised but not greasy or shiny. I couldn’t see a major difference between the clear and tinted shade at all so I won’t favour one over another.
