Bobbi Brown Skin Long-Wear Fluid Powder Foundation

Where I got it

While I was browsing around my local Farmers, I visited the Bobbi Brown counter to test out the Hydrating Water Fresh Cream, I saw the stand for their new Fluid Powder Foundation. I remember seeing someone review this on YouTube but I haven’t watched it. I decided it was something that might suit my skin type so I decided to give it a try. Farmers was also doing 15% off a couple of big brands so Bobbi Brown was included as well as Estée Lauder, Tom Ford and YSL. This foundation is $69, with 15% it cane down to $58.65. For a Bobbi Brown foundation, $58 is a pretty good deal.

How I find it

The sales assistant told me that this is more of a tinted moisturiser but with a matte, powder-like finish. It self-sets and you don’t need to powder over it. I was quite excited for this because I really like a natural matte finish sometimes, but I have yet to find sheer to medium coverage foundation that has a powdery, matte finish. I love how it claims to be like a tinted moisturiser so it’s moisturising but at the same time matte finish! I have no idea how it works or if it works, but I’m going to find out.

So first time I try this, I’m going to use no primer underneath and apply this straight over my moisturiser and SPF. This foundation does contain SPF20, but I usually don’t care how much SPF is in my foundation because I always use approximately 1-2 pumps of foundation and that is not enough SPF for my entire face. The consistency is really fluid and lightweight. I put the product on the back of my hand and then use my fingers to dab the product on my face then I blend with a buffing brush. The foundation blends easily and one layer gives a nice sheer/medium coverage and it feels light on the skin. I can already tell that the foundation is starting to dry down, but I can still add more coverage to my problem areas (cheeks and jaw). There were no patchiness, streaks or weird patches, and my entire face looks pretty awesome. It has nice coverage but at the same time looks like my skin!

I tried this also with primer underneath and I didn’t even bother using a mattifying primer because the first trial was really impressive. I managed to wear it for at least 8 hours without looking like a greaseball. I did have oil come through my t-zone, but it looked natural and it mixed well with the foundation and did not look blotchy. I tried this using a blurring primer and a moisturising primer and they both achieved great results.

Overall

I am thoroughly impressed with this foundation and I love the finish and lightweight texture of this foundation. I am surprised on how oil-controlling this is and still look very natural and non-cakey on the skin. A single layer is enough to even out the skintone and I like to add another layer to my problem areas to acheive even higher coverage. It builds alright, but I would need to work fast before it fully sets. I do not need to use a powder to set the foundation and it stays on my skin perfectly without much movement or fading.

So far, both foundation I own from Bobbi Brown has been impressive and I really enjoy using. I also bought their Water Fresh Cream as a hydrating moisturiser to use underneath an oil-controlling foundation like this one. This foundation isn’t drying to the skin, but it is oil-free so if you have dry skin, you might want to avoid this, but if you use a hydrating moisturiser beforehand, foundation is less likely to fall into creases or develop dry patches.
