Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Sun Serum

Where I got it

OK, so this is the 3rd product I’ve been influenced to buy after listening to the Adore Beauty Beauty IQ podcast on repeat. I’m such a sucker for people giving raving reviews. I already have my eyes on another product I want to try and it’s a foundation.

Anyway, I vouch for sunscreen and I apply it religiously every single morning, no exceptions whatsoever. Not even when I’m staying home for the day. I also use at least SPF30 in a separate product – i.e. not a moisturiser with SPF or foundation with SPF. I use a sunscreen over my moisturiser and under any makeup.

On episode 6 of the podcast, Joanna and Hannah interviewed Ava, the owner of Ultra Violette and it was the first time I’ve ever heard of the brand. Ultra Violette is an Australian brand and it only makes SPF products – 3 different types of facial sunscreen and an SPF lip balm in 2 shades. Currently, Adore Beauty is the only place where you can purchase these online (except for the brand’s own website). I got this on Adorebeauty.co.nz for NZD$51.70.

What I got

This is the Ultra Violette Queen Screen SPF 50+ Luminising Sun Serum (50ml).  A broad-spectrum SPF in the body of an anti-ageing serum to make your skin glow like this . The oil-free formula is jam-packed with native antioxidants that’ll melt into your face like a discarded Callipo on a hot summer’s day. Queen Screen even feels regal, with a milky, luminizing and lightweight texture that glides on and smells subtly of roses (heaven!). Co-existing happily with the rest of your skincare (read: no pilling) while providing the perfect base for makeup, Queen Screen is the ultimate girlfriend.

How I find it

I tried this the moment I opened it from the packaging. It comes without any box or plastic wrap, only the bubble wrap from Adore Beauty standard packaging. The beautiful blue and almost fluorescent coral is so different and appealing to the eye! It’s in a glass bottle with dropper you dispense the white sunscreen fluid.

The fluid has a milky texture and smells strongly of roses. The fragrance is rather strong, I suppose to mask out that sunscreen smell? The milky sunscreen is quite runny and lightweight. I was expecting a sight sheen or shimmer or glow when blended into the skin because it claims to provide a glow to the skin. There is a bit of glow right after application, but once it dries down its undetectable. There were no white-cast, no shimmer, no sheen. My skin looked natural.

I always apply sunscreen during the day and I use it after moisturiser, before primer or any face makeup. I bring it down to my neck as well. It doesn’t dry down super matte or powdery on the skin nor does it feel greasy or oily. So I am able to apply makeup over it easily without moving around.

Overall

I am actually very happy with the texture and finish of this sunscreen with the strong scent as the only downside. They recommend using 3 droppers full of product for the entire face, but I can only use 1 or 2 to cover my neck as well. It is not a product where you can layer on top of existing makeup as it’s not made for touching up. But I’m so loving this ultra-lightweight, hydrating sunscreen that provides SPF50!

I did notice that it interacted with one of my primer, which contained quite a bit of dimethicone and it pilled up. Otherwise, I was able to use this over makeup without any issues, I just dispense in my hands, rub them together and just pat over my face!

So far, I’m loving everything about this sunscreen except for how heavy the scent is, but I would repurchase in a heartbeat. However, at the meantime, I might try out their other sunscreen products next.
