Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

Where I got it

I got this from Mecca a while ago after watching so many influencers and skinare gurus talk about it and using it on YouTube. The brand itself is intruguing to me as well, but they are high end and some creams and serums are crazy expensive! This cleansing balm is $110 on Meccabeauty.co.nz for 105g, a close contender for the Eve Lom cleanser at $122 per 100ml!

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

What I got

This is the Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm (105g). This powerful, deep cleansing balm dissolves makeup, daily grime and pollutants. Luxurious rose and mimosa waxes are infused with nourishing elderberry, starflower and Optimega™ oils and supercharged with anti-ageing algae, padina pavonica. Skin is intensely cleansed, nourished and renewed for a glowing complexion. Includes a luxury cleansing cloth.

For an intensely nourishing treatment, you can also use this product as a facial mask. Apply a teaspoon size amount to the face, neck and décolleté massaging gently with fingertips. Relax for 10 minutes, then hold a warm, damp cleansing cloth over the skin, practise abdominal breathing and inhale the sensorial aroma.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

How I find it

I absolutely love a cleansing oil or cleansing balm to remove my makeup. I always double cleanse at night to remove makeup, sunscreen, dirt and grime.

This cleansing balm comes in a large box with a free cotton flannel for removal of the product. It also comes with a plastic spatula to pick up the product. It looks great on the countertop in my bathroom, but it takes up space.

The texture of this balm is like softened butter, it has a medium yellow colour to it and the first thing you pick up when opening it, is the scent. It is really strong, but I like it. It almost smells like tiger balm or something soothing like the aromatherapy scent you get in a spa.

I use a decent sized scoop of the balm and massage it all over my face. The product melts on contact with the skin like butter on toast. I can massage this in my face for a few minutes. You can rinse off with the help of the cloth provided or just emulsify the product for another 30 seconds and then rinse it off.

Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleansing Balm

Overall

OK, so straight away from the ingredients list, I see coconut oil, lavender oil, fragrance and a lot of different essential oils. I get that this is an oil-based cleansing balm, but the fragrance in this product can be a little overwhelming. Initial thoughts of this fragrance smells like tiger balm or something my grandmother would use to sooth her aches (not in a bad way, it’s nostalgic, but also a lovely sensorial experience).

I’m not one to shy away from fragrance and it doesn’t seem to affect me skin a whole lot, but it’s the coconut oil I’m a little concerned about. Even though it is not high up in the list, but it is around the middle and I don’t ever use coconut oil on my skin because it is so occulsive and it can clog my pores and cause breakouts. So far, I have been half way through this product and I don’t have any major issues, just the odd spot once in a while.

I like how this balm is so soft, almost like softened butter and just scoops out like a gel instead of a semi-hard balm (I did a little clip on the texture of this on my IG – @kittiemui). It melts instantly on the face and spread like butter on toast – it feels amazing! If you love the smell, you will feel like you are in a high end spa or salon! This is a large jar of product on the countertop but nonetheless beautiful! I would love to be able to afford using this in the long-run, but I’m not sure if it is worth it because I don’t like the coconut oil in it. I think I’m going to go with the Banila Co Zero Cleansing Balm.
