Meccaland Afterparty Beauty Lab

Meccaland Afterparty

Last weekend, my sister and I headed to the Meccaland Afterparty in Westfield Albany. I would’ve loved to go to Meccaland, but it’s all the way over in Melbourne and I wasn’t able to go because you know, life happens.

Anyway, we booked ourselves in for a beauty lab session for glowing skin makeup tutorial and we headed it a little earlier to do some pre-event shopping. We were seated down at our own counter complete with a number of products, a LED mirror, a bunch of brushes, accessories and a goodie bag!

There was a $50 booking fee for the beauty lab seat and we get a goodie bag filled with products that are worth over $75, so it was all worthwhile. There were 2 types of beauty lad sessions – glittery eyes and glowing skin. They were around 30-40 mins and were spaced an hour apart. We went to the 3pm glowing skin session.

So we started off by removing most of the makeup off our skin. I removed my foundation and brows, I didn’t really have time to remove my eyeliner and mascara. Then we prepped our skin with the Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Green Tea, followed with the Laura Mercier Radiance Foundation Primer smoothing it all over my face and then my skin is ready for foundation.

We were shade matched quickly with the Bare Minerals Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel Cream (Buttercream 3.0) mixed with the Mecca Max Liquid Light in Opal. Apply that all over my skin with my fingers, then use a stippling brush to blend it out. Additional coverage can be achieved with the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer to my under eyes and on my chin area.

After that, the apply bronzer to the sides of our face with the Too Faced Pineapple Paradise Strobing Bronzer. Focusing on the really peripheral edges of the face and bringing it into the middle of the face. Then we use the Stila Convertible Colour mixed with half a drop of the Mecca Liquid Light on our fingertips and blend. Then pat pat pat on the outer c area just around our eyes. I usually wear highlighter to that location and not blush, so that is really interesting. You do that to keep the blush colour higher to create the illusion of the apples of your cheeks to be higher = younger looking.

At this point, my cheekbones are beaming and flushed. I didn’t apply any more highlighter because it was already super glowy. We then went into our brows with the Billion Dollar Brow Brow gels and applied mascara with the Hourglass Caution Mascara. Finish everything off with a good spray with the Urban Decay All-nighter setting spray.

At the end of the session, we were given each a card to claim our free sample set and it has 3 sample sized products inside. A Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick (I already have this from a recent loop box), a Clinique Moisture Surge 72-hr hydrator (I already have full size), and a Urban Decay Eye Primer potion (have never tried this before).

Overall, I really enjoyed the makeup session, it was more for fun rather than really personalised makeup tutorial in my opinion. It was rather fast-paced and while the techniques are easy to understand, you need to be quick which I think I was comfortable with because I know a bit about makeup on myself. I didn’t really have time to check out other people except for my sister. I also think the products in the goodie bag is quite good. The Laura Mercier especially is something that I have wanted to try, but I may not have got the radiance version?
