Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel

Where I got it

OK, so I was visiting Mecca Maxima again just to get the Dr Dennis Gross Colloidal Sulfur Mask and I saw this in on the aisle along the counter. This little pack contains 5 treatments in total and it was only $27. Therefore it is around $5.40 per treatment. The 30-treatment packet has a $4.60 per treatment value, so if you love it from this mini set, you should buy the 30-treatment or up to 60-treatment pack.

What I got

This is the Dr Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Universal Daily Peel (5-treatment). Dr. Dennis Gross’ iconic original formula, a daily peel formulated to treat three common signs of aging: uneven tone and texture, fine lines and wrinkles, and enlarged pores, with five acids – without causing irritation. Resurrect radiance with the appearance of reduced wrinkles, and refined pores with Dr. Dennis Gross’ iconic renewing peel, an easy and safe for at-home use version of peels he uses for patients at his NYC practice – without requiring recovery time. Step 1 is packed with rejuvenating, powerful yet gentle exfoliating acids. Step 2 controls the alpha hydroxy acid activity and delivers anti-aging actives, nourishing skin, keeping it balanced, smooth, and radiant – perfectly prepped for a more effective skincare routine. Skin immediately looks refreshed and glowing. This universal formula contains a combination of five acids, ideal for first-time peel users and those of all skin types.

How I find it

These daily peels come in Ultra Gentle, Universal, Extra Strength and Medi-spa. Ultra Gentle contains a combination of 3 acids, Universal has 5, Extra Strength has 7 and Medi-spa has 15. These peels are designed to be used daily if your skin can tolerate it. However, it is recommended to start using it every other day to start with and see how the skin reacts. Except for the Medi-spa version which you should alternate with other daily peels.

So one treatment is a 2-packet system. Step 1, apply the pre-soaked pad to cleansed skin using a circular motion. Continue until the pad dries. Wait for 2 minutes and then move onto step 2. Step 2 is the same as step 1 and DO NOT RINSE. It is also important to use a sunscreen during the day and not use any products containing alcohol afterwards. You can also use a retinol product after this (I have been using Drunk Elephant A-Passioni Retinol cream with this).

I tried this treatment for a consecutive 5 days and here are the results. The 1st treatment was nothing special, I did not feel any tingle or burn or redness, anything. The instructions were easy and straightforward so after the treatment, I used my usual moisturiser and that was it. On the 2nd day, I used a Retinol cream after the treatment and my face still did not have any irritation or redness, nor did I see any major differences on my existing blemishes or pore sizes. On the 3rd day, I can kind of see some of my existing breakouts calm down and starting to fade, but nothing too amazing yet. I have also used a retinol cream after my 3rd treatment. On the 4th and 5th day, I basically did everything the same after using this and I honestly didn’t really see or feel major difference in regards to my blemishes and acne scarring.  Texture-wise, I did feel a slight reduction of bumps that you can’t really see in the photos, but that’s about it. My skin does look very bright and glowy after the 5 treatments and the areas that I don’t have breakouts or acne scarring looks really healthy and firm.

Overall

After a consecutive 5-day treatment using these Universal pads, I would say that they do brighten my skin up in regards to getting the dead skin off my face, but for blemishes, redness and acne scarring, it will take a lot more treatments or even higher strength treatments to really see some results. My acne scarring are pretty severe and they are the crater types, so they are really tough to treat at home with topical treatments (I have had some collagen-induction treatments with Caci Clinic – search Reformaskin on my blog). My skin is also accustomed to acids, so maybe my skin just needs something stronger.

Just an update in regards to post treatment before I publish this post, I did get 3-4 large pimples around my jaw and chin area which I’m not too sure what the cause was, but I haven’t really changed up my skincare or diet and it’s not my time of the month yet. So, hmmm…..?

I do have the 30-treatment box of the Dr Dennis Gross Extra Strength pads which I will try maybe a little bit later. Maybe then we will see if the pads would break me out or not, or if these extra strength pads would make a difference to my skin?
