Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder

Where I got it

I have been seeing so much hype with Benefit’s brow products and they do have a wide range of brow products from powders to pomades, brow gels to brow pencils and even brow primers! So I headed into their New Market branch and had a quick look. I was going for natural looking brows and I usually use brow pencil so I told the lady I would like to try something else. She recommended me this Foolproof Brow Powder and it was $46.00.

What I got

This is the Benefit Foolproof Brow Powder in shade 5. Get foolproof fullness and a soft, natural look with foolproof brow powder. This velvety smooth, 12-hour* formula instantly adheres to hair & skin transforming sparse brows into full-looking brows. The light-to-dark shade mimics the gradual look of natural brows and the eyebrow-shaped pan makes it super easy to apply… no harsh lines or mistakes! Comes in 3 shades – 1, 3 and 5.

How I find it

This is the darkest shade available and it matches me pretty well. It is a two-tone powder compact and a little firm sponge-tip applicator and a hidden spoolie. The applicator is really quite small so I wouldn’t really use it unless I’m out and about for touch-ups. If at home, I would use an angled brush to apply the products.

So starting from the start of the brow, use the lighter shade, and the darker shade at the ends. If you have long brow hairs, you might want to brush them up first, and then use the brow powders. I find brow powders are really easy to use without the overly-dramatic brow look. I always use a spoolie to tidy up the brow hair and to loosen up where powder sometimes bunch up.

If I ever over-done any areas or have made mistakes, I simply use a q-tip to flick it off or gently brush it out to make it softer. I then use a brow gel to set everything in place so it stays put. Brow gels are not always for people with bushy brows, you can use it even if  you have minimal brow hair as some brow products contains fibers to provide some volume and it also tints the brow hair.

Overall

I usually used brow pencils as they are convenient, fast and natural looking. However, when brow pencils are too soft, they can be quite unnatural looking and quite dark. For a while, I was using a Maybelline brow product that has a twist up brow pencil and a powder on the other side and I love using the powder part at the start of my brows for that natural look.

I prefer to soft-looking brows as opposed to the Instagram brow where you can draw individual brow hairs and define brow shape using concealers under and above the brows. Brow powders allows me to fill in my brows without those sharp strokes and it is easy to blend out. This particular brow powder doesn’t really wow me that much, but it is quite a handy on to have if I go travelling. Honestly, this is a tie between packing a brow pencil and a spoolie to this little brow kit, but this does have 2 shades, so.

I have also been using this with the Gimme Brow brow gel to set the brow colours and I quite like that one instead. Review should be up very soon, so either come back again or search for the review on my blog!
