White Glo Activated Charcoal Deep Stain Remover

Where I got it: I was at my local Life Pharmacy last week and while I was waiting for a prescription, I saw this and picked it up for $19.95. I don’t think this type of teeth whitening powder has been very popular on social media for a few years now (same goes with oil-pulling and I’ve tried that stuff before).

What I got: This is the White Glo Activated Charcoal Deep Stain Remover (30g). This highly absorbent Activated Charcoal penetrates and draws out stubborn stains, traps colour particles, fights bad breath and whitens teeth enamel. Uses the natural elements of Activated Charcoal to clean and whiten teeth!

How I find it: The instructions do not mention whether to brush your teeth before or after or if you don’t even need to brush at all. I think it made sense to brush your teeth after the powder to get rid of all the residue (it does get into the gaps and you need to rinse very thoroughly). It recommended getting the powder onto the brush with the little spoon that comes with it, but it got a little messy so I started dipping the brush into powder (making sure my brush isn’t dripping with water). Then I brush my teeth with the powder for 2 minutes. The powder foams up and it is best to close your mouth as much as possible to avoid too much mess. The just spit and rinse thoroughly. Personally, I will brush my teeth again whether with toothpaste or not.

Overall: First of all, the packaging of the tub is a little inconvenient to access the powder and it can be a little easy to get powder everywhere. I also like to dip the brush into the powder instead of using the little spoon because I find that pouring the powder onto the brush can get the powder down to the root of the brushes instead of the tips. The powder foams up quite nicely, but I don’t think I can use this twice a day because I feel that the powder is a little abrasive and my gums feel a little sore after a 2-minute brush. So I only brush around a minute and only use it ones a day.

You have to make sure you rinse and remove all the charcoal powder otherwise it leaves an almost ashy look on your teeth. This type of product doesn’t work overnight or after 2-3 brushes, you have to be quite persistent and make sure you drink less coffee or tea or anything that stains your teeth.

Update after at least 3 weeks of daily use: well, I can’t cut down my tea intake but I don’t drink much dark tea (I prefer matcha or green tea). I use this twice a day and I honestly can’t see a major difference. I like how my mouth feels after using this – fresh and clean, but I don’t see a big whitening effect on me. I do like how it makes my mouth clean and seems to reduce any bad breath. I will continue using this until I finish this. I will probably repurchase but won’t depend on this for whitening my teeth.
