Dermalogica Hydrablur Primer

Where I got it: I was sent this for consideration from Dermalogica. Dermalogica products are available at authorised Dermalogica® spa, salons and skin centres nationwide and at www.dermalogica.co.nz. This product will be available from 18th November 2015 for $94.

What I got: This is a 22ml tube of Dermalogica Hydrablue Primer. Fusing powerful skin treatment and skin primer technology together, it is a multitasking, hydrating product to optimise skin health through intense moisturisation – creating a dramatic “blurring” effect on fine lines and wrinkles. The lightweight, non-greasy formula is ideal for all skin conditions, particularly dry or dehydrated skin. Intense, sustained-release moisturisation locks in ideal hydration levels and controls Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL); this helps maintain critical moisture balance, leaving skin looking and feeling hydrated throughout the day, as well as helping decrease the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

The HydraBlurTM Primer reduces the appearance of pores without drying the skin and mattifies against an oily shine, providing a silky, luminous finish. Ingredients and benefits include:

  •  H2ORelease™ Complex of Sodium Hyaluronate, Algin and Trehalose optimises hydration levels to maintain skin flexibility and smoothness, and helps provide sustained, intense moisturisation lasting throughout the day
  • Abyssinian Seed Oil smooths skin texture and tone by creating a non-occlusive film that helps maintain critical moisture balance, without clogging pores
  • Mattifiers reduce oily sheen and disguise the appearance of fine, dry lines and imperfections to create an even canvas with a soft-focus or blurred effect
  • Fomes Officinalis (Mushroom) Extract reduces pore visibility and size
  • Wu-Zhu-Yu (Evodia Rutaecarpa) Fruit Extract enhances skin radiance by boosting microcirculation
  • Micro-encapsulated tint releases upon application to provide neutral coverage

How I find it: I have been using this on its own, under foundation and even over foundation. This has a light-weight, non-greasy texture that is also mattifying on the skin. It is white in colour, I can see some tiny brown specks in the product which I think are the mirco-encapsulated tint. It creates a subtle blurring effect without feeling like you’ve put putty over your skin to smooth out fine lines. Instantly smoothes the skin and it is ready for your foundation! I only use this on areas where I have fine lines (mouth and eye area), then I use their Redness Relief

Overall: I love wearing primers by itself when I feel like a no foundation day or just a bit of concealor here and there. My skin feels smoother and looks mattified without looking too flat. I have been using this on the fine lines around my mouth and eyes and it creates a semi-matte finish to blur my fine lines and pores as well. The primer also comes with a little device to squeeze the little remaining bits out of the tube so that’s really handy. I have been wearing this with my new Za Airy Flawless Powder Foundation and I have been getting compliments for my complexion at work! Woohoo! I love how it all feels lightweight and does ball up with my foundation at all. It also does not cause my foundation to creep into my fine lines so that is a big thumbs up as well!
