PHD 3 day Juice Cleanse

I was at the Auckland Food Show last month and we walked by the PHD (Pure Health Delivered) stand. I have always been interested in doing the juice cleanse but I was never able to justify the cost. For a 3-day juice cleanse, you get 6 juices each day for the price of $189 (excluding shipping).  They had a special deal on at the Food Show so me and my little sister decided to give this a try (when you are shopping with someone else that is ALSO buying things, you are more like to make a purchase as well. Right?). For $180 we got the 3-day cleanse with free shipping (approx. $10) and 4 free 350ml juices of my choice! The lovely guy at the stand also gave us a free chilly bag each for our juices worth $14.95! Thanks!

So this is part of the basic cleanse and you have an option of 1 day ($63), 3 day ($189) and 6 day ($378) cleanse. From the website: “The PHD Basic Cleanse is the ideal way to experience a raw juice cleanse for the first time. This cleanse consists of 6 specially formulated, cold-pressed vegetable and fruit juices. The perfect way to kickstart a clean eating program.” You are supposed to drink the juice only for 3 days without any food.

You choose your own delivery date and just had to make sure you are there to receive it and put them into the fridge to preserve their natural raw nature. It comes in a big cardboard box with an insulated bag inside (got delivered to my mum’s place).

PHD 3-day juice cleanse

How I find it: Overall, I didn’t really go through the entire 3-days without eating anything, but only a light dinner (yea, I cheated..). The overall effects of the juice cleanse should be best if you really stick to it without any food, but even though I did have food, I felt great! Despite going to the toilet a million times in a day and occupying the office fridge for a bit, the juice tastes really nice so I always look forward to the next bottle. It definitely made my skin clearer and I had good bowel movements everyday, plus no bloating!

As for the juices itself:

Pure Green is a combination of Cucumber, Celery, Kale, Parsley, Lemon, Green Apple, Cos Lettuce, Spinach. It tastes great with a dominant celery taste. Slightly sweet with the apple in it.

Yellow Hit is a combination of Pineapple, Apple, Mint. This one is the sweetest out of all juices and from the website it claims to be the most popular. But honestly I find it too sweet.

In Red Beet you get Carrot, Apple, Beetroot, Lemon, Ginger. This one was surprisingly delicious! I have never really liked beetroot, but this mixture with carrot and apple makes this really easy to drink. This may stain your lips and teeth a little though!

Zesty Lemonade Lemon, Cayenne, Organic rice malt syrup, filtered water. This lemonade is sour and slightly spicy with the cayenne pepper. This is actually my least favourite juice simply because it is a bit sour.

Cashew Dream Cashew nuts, Vanilla, Organic rice malt syrup, Cinnamon, filtered water. Mmmm this is the one I look forward to! It has a slight gritty texture from cashew. It is slightly sweet from the natural sweetness of cashew and it is more filling that other juices.

How I find it: I loved all the juices especially the Red Beet, Pure Green and Cashew Dream. I didn’t expect to like Red Beet, but it just tastes so nice! Pure Green just makes me feel that I’ve put in really healthy stuff into my body. Cashew Dream is just a lovely milky drink with yummy cinnamon! Fills me up the most. Yellow Hit is nice and sweet with the pineapple, but a little too sweet for me. Zesty Lemonade is slightly hot from the Cayenne pepper and it makes me feel super hungry!! I did have a light meal at dinner time because I really couldn’t hack it with looking after a baby and working at the same time..

Overall: Love the juices and the idea behind it. I would prefer the juices to have more fibres though, but that’s my preference only. I think a 3 day cleanse is doable if you are beginners. Just be warned, you will be hungry and you WILL need to avoid opening the cupboard and looking at other stuff in the fridge while you go get your juices!! You will find your overall bowel movements much more healthier, your skin will begin a detox cycle and get glowing. You need to follow-up with healthy eating after the cleanse though, not pig out with KFC after this otherwise there will be no effect at all.  So if you are starting out that detox cleanse or trying to eat healthier, start with a juice cleanse from PHD!
