Dermalogica Breakout Control

Where I got it: I was sent this from the pr for consideration. Dermalogica products are available from authorised skin centres and dermalogica.co.nz from 1st February 2015. This Breakout Control is RRP$79.

What I got: This is a 30ml bottle of Breakout Control, a new breakthrough product developed by Dermalogica to treat adult acne without Benzoyl Peroxide, a common irritant for sensitive skin. It is a non-tinted formula that may be used as a spot-treatment or as an all-over treatment for adult acne, and is formulated to prevent irritation to even sensitive acneic skin. The formula blends invisibly into the skin, and may be used at any time to absorb oiliness which leads to blemishes, to loosen early-stage impactions before they become infected, and to soothe the inflammation which accompanies an acneic outbreak. Since excess sebum production is a primary cause of acne, Breakout Control has been formulated with absorbent polymers, which act as microscopic sponges to help control excess oil. An Azelaic Acid derivative also regulates sebum without drying or dehydrating the skin. Lactobacillus Ferment gently removes plugs which lead to infected impactions as part of the acneic cycle, while Colloidal Silver in the formula eliminates common acne bacteria which thrive on cell debris and can collect in congested pores. Soothing botanical Tea Tree oil works in tandem with Zinc Sulfate to reduce redness and minimise irritation. This new lightweight, antimicrobial cream will be the latest extension of Dermalogica’s mediBac clearing® system, a group of advanced skin care products developed specifically for adult acne, as opposed to teen acne.

How I find it: Breakout Control comes in an easy to use 30 ml. needle nose bottle which dispenses a small dot amount of product onto fingertips without leaving a mess or giving too much product. I like to use this after my toner and before my moisturiser. I apply it directly onto my spots or my chin area where I am prone to breakouts, then leave it to dry. I use this once a day at night, but you can certainly use it twice a day as it doesn’t dry your skin out like other spot treatments. When I don’t have any active breakouts, I would apply this 3 times a week sparingly to where I am prone to having breakouts to prevent them from coming back.

Overall: Great product. Doesn’t over-dry my blemishes or skin around the blemish which is great to use twice a day. It’s effective and it works, but it does take up to 3 days to get rid of a big under-the-skin pimple. If you are looking for a mild blemish treatment that doesn’t dry out your skin and at the same time prevent them from coming back, go and give this a try! If you are looking for a fast acting blemish treatment to be used at night, I would recommend Estee Lauder’s Targeting Blemish Treatment. But it can dry out your spots leaving the skin a little flakey.
