ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer and Foundation

Where I got it: I was sent these from the pr for consideration. These ulta3 products are available from selected pharmacies and Postie+ stores nationwide.

What I got: This is ulta3’s Perfect Balance Primer and Foundation in 3 Natural. Both primer and foundation comes in a frosted glass bottle with a black pump and clear plastic lid. The packaging is pretty sleek and doesn’t look cheap at all. The pump dispenses a good amount (all I need is 1 pump for primer and 2 pumps for the foundation for medium coverage). The foundation comes in 5 different shades and they are quite neutral tones.

How I find it:
The Perfect Balance Primer (30ml RRP $13.95) ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer is infused with the goodness of Argan Oil, which comes from the nuts of the Argan tree, grown only in the south-western part of Morocco. ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer is formulated to create a perfect and protective base before applying ulta3 Perfect Balance Foundation. This facial necessity helps makeup to set beautifully and naturally, while keeping the skin hydrated and smooth. When using ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer, makeup will appear fresher and last longer throughout the day. ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer creates a ‘barrier’ between the skin and makeup, sealing moisture in and leaving the skin surface softly luminous.     I use 1 pump for a full face application after my moisturiser and sunscreen. The primer has a smoothing effect that makes my skin feel less bumpy but without the silky slippery feeling that silicon primers have. I like how it feels on my skin as it leave my skin smooth like a rose petal. Foundation applied on top will not slip and slide but adhere to the primer without products building up in areas. This primer contains Argan oil to moisturise the skin so my dry areas are looked after.

The Perfect Balance Foundation in 3 Natural (30ml  RRP $14.95) is a lightweight, oil-free formula, packed with antioxidants vitamin C, B3 and E for a glowing complexion and flawless finish. ulta3 Perfect Balance Foundation allows for buildable coverage – apply subtly as a sheer day tint, or liberally for evening glamour. Apply one pump to fingertips and gently massage ulta3 Perfect Balance Primer into face and neck. Once absorbed, follow with ulta3 Perfect Balance Foundation. May also be used under ulta3 CC Cream or bronzer/powder.    I use 2 pumps for a light to medium coverage after applying the primer. I love using a damp Real Techniques blender sponge to apply this foundation. With dabbing motions, gently press the foundation onto my face and focusing areas like the sides of my nose and my cheeks where I’ve got quite a bit of acne scars and large pores – it gives the most natural flawless application! The shade is just perfect for me and the medium coverage has a natural finish. I would say that this is great for normal to dry skin, because after about 3 hours my t-zone started to get oily and slip. It is easily removed with cleansing oils, cleansing water, makeup removing wipes, etc.

Overall: Both these products are very good. I love the glass bottle packaging with the convenient pump! I think they are both suitable for combination normal skin but not oily skin. Applying a powder will help out with extra oil control and staying power. I love using the primer by itself or with another foundation as it creates a smooth surface without feeling sticky or heavy. Applying with a beauty blender or something similar gives a lovely finish, but maybe not the best coverage. You would need to apply a second layer for medium to full coverage. There is no strong scent in the foundation and does not oxidize throughout the day. Moisturising formula doesn’t dry out my skin or sink into my lines which is great.
