Moisture Mist Beauty Cake Foundation

Where I got it: I was sent this for review from www.beautyreview.co.nz. You could find Moisture Mist products from most Farmers and leading pharmacies. This retails for $35 including the sponge applicator.

What I got: This is Moisture Mist Beauty Cake Foundation in 355 Natural Ochre. Available in 8 different shades, Beauty Cake is a compact foundation formulated to be used with a damp sponge applicator. It provides long-lasting natural finish with a sheer to full coverage (depending on the dampness of the sponge). It provides a fresh feeling to the skin and is highly resistant to oil and perspiration. Suitable for all skin types but ideal for normal to oily skin. The compact comes with a mirror but the sponge is separate. The oval shaped sponge comes in a ventilated plastic pouch.

How I find it: I have tested this foundation compact without the use of a primer. I wet the sponge it came with and squeezed some of the water out then swirl it around the beauty cake to pick up the foundation. Try not to go too crazy with swirling because you may pick up too much product. Smooth the sponge all over the skin with outward motions or pressing motion. The coverage is sheer/medium and it can be buildable to a rather full coverage (but can get a bit cakey). The more damp my sponge is, the more sheer the coverage will be. It provides a naturally matte finish and feels very light to the touch.

Overall: Compact foundation has not been my favourite type of foundation because I find that it is very hard to control and can be patchy. They may also look cakey on my face and sometimes catch onto my dry, flaky areas. I like the natural finish it has and it feels light on the skin. A good tip is to apply in light layers to build up coverage because as the water evaporates from the foundation, there seems to be more pigment on the skin than first applied. The foundation lasts for a good 5 hour when set with a finishing powder. I love the pouch that the sponge comes with but it would have been better if the sponge can fit into to compact so that it is easier to travel with.
