Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick

Having just bought some Revlon Colorstay Ultimate Suede lipstick, I figured that I would do a review of the old liquid lipstick by Revlon as well for a comparison because I find that they are quite similar in terms of the finish and feel on the lips.

Where I got it: I got this ages ago in my local Farmers for about $30.

What I got: This is Revlon’s Colorstay Ultimate Liquid Lipstick in 001. This was one of Revlon’s new lip color + topcoat formula that was quite popular back then. It claims to last up to 12 hours of comfortable wear.

How I find it: Ensure I have exfoliated lips and no lip balm on my lips. I apply about 2 layers of this liquid lipstick and let it set for around 10-15 minutes.

Upon application: The colour is lovely, bright with a hint of gloss. The texture is quite fluid even the applicator tip creates brush strokes on my lips. Taking care to paint my lips at this stage if very crucial because when it sets, you cant adjust it easily.

After 10-15 mintues: The color is set, but my lips are a little tacky. The shade seems to be quite natural on my lips with a hint of shimmer.

Top: half natural lips and half with lip color (this color is very close to my natural color). Middle: packaging and applicator. Bottom: Entire lips immediately after application.

After 6 hours: After lunch (eating cornflakes with milk with a spoon) the color has faded along the inside edge of my lips. The color has lightened but I can still see most of the color on my lips and around the outside edge. Still have not applied anything on my lips. No lip balm, lipstick, lip gloss, etc.  I drink constantly at work whether it is green tea, water or V and I hate getting lipstick on my thermal mug, this is perfect that it does not transfer at all!

Above: After lunch (about 6 hours of wear).

After 10 hours: After wearing this to work for 8 hours and coming home for dinner. The color had semi-faded much like the situation for the Ulitmate Suede lipsticks, but since this color is much closer to my natural lip color, the 2-tone look is not so obvious. My lips feels soft and light like I’m not wearing anything on my lips, they are dry to the touch, but a little tacky when I press my lips. Removal is easy with oil base eye and lip makeup remover.

Overall: The liquid texture and formula made this a bit hard to apply without an obvious line around the outer edge. You would definitely need a mirror and apply carefully.

Repurchase? I obviously didn’t repurchase as this was sitting in my drawer for a long time. I’ve just dished it out because I recently got the Ultimate suede lipsticks and I would like to compare. I’m not even sure these are still available? However after using this again I might well give this another chance because the color is nice and I think I could live with re-application once a day.
