L’Oreal Infallible 24hr Stay Fresh Foundation

Where I got it

So after all the recent hype on this L’Oreal Infallible Fresh Wear Foundation over YouTube, etc. I got to give it a try. It was highly recommended by Tati from GlamLifeGuru as well as Taylor from Thataylaa as a really natural looking, non-cakey, fresh looking long-wear foundation that is great for pretty much all skin types. These are not yet available in New Zealand so I ordered it off on ebay.com.

So L’Oreal has a couple of foundations in their Infallible range which can be confusing. And what makes it even more confusing is that they are a little different from country to country, let me explain a little bit here. Up until recently, L’Oreal has been having some of their Infallible foundations in squeezy tubes – pro-matte, pro-glow, total cover, etc. which seems to be the same internationally. When it comes to the new Infallible liquid foundation (glass bottle with pump), it looks a little different between what we have in Aus/NZ and what they have in the US. Their range has 30 shades and our range is just about 7 shades? I’m not even sure if the formula is the same, but it does state 24hr “fresh wear” which the claim that everyone is impressed by.

Anyway, I grabbed this from ebay.com which I only found out is the same packaging and formula as the one launched in Aus/NZ ($43.99 in Farmers), not the one that is from US. I paid NZD$19.69 for this foundation including shipping which was actually really fast (within 2 weeks).

How I find it

First time wearing this, I wore my favourite Tatcha Silk Canvas primer all over my face so that the product glides on smoothly and more pores are minimized. From previous experience with L’Oreal foundations, they tend to be a little drying or cakey around my mouth and chin area, so I made sure I used a good moisturiser and let that sink in.

I use a full pump on the back of my hand and dot the product all over my face using my fingertips. Then I use a Morphe M439 which is the Deluxe Buffer to buff the product into my skin. The application is quick and easy, no streaks and no patchiness at all. It has a natural glow finish and it does sort of dries down to a natural skin-like finish. I will always powder because I have oily skin so I need to set the foundation. It doesn’t really control oil so when my natural oil comes through I will need to blot.

After a couple of uses, I really enjoy using a smoothing or pore-minimizing primer underneath. I don’t need to use a moisturising primer at all because I didn’t experience any dryness or dry patches. I can also use a colour-correcting primer where I need. Powder blush, bronzer and highlighter goes on without any issues.

220 Sable Sand has a slightly pink/red undertone so even thought the shade matches, the undertone is a little off. I can see obvious shade difference on my neck and chest. I would need a more neutral or yellow under-tone shade to have a perfect match.

At around the 4th hour mark, my foundation still looks really good – nothing is really sliding off or cracking. My nose area is a little oily but I can easily blot that off without ruining my makeup. It’s definitely not a long-wear budge-proof foundation because I did see some of foundation transfer to my blotting paper, but generally it’s not going to get all over your clothes and hands, etc.

Overall

Overall I am quite happy with this foundation – it’s medium coverage, the natural finish and how it stays on my face without much separation and sliding. The shade match is unfortunately a little too red/pink on my skintone, which is quite hard to make it work. I love the packaging with the cap and the pump in a glass bottle, not the best for travelling but it is hygienic and easy to use and dispense. I would recommend the foundation, but for the price it is in New Zealand $40+, it is quite up there.
